Scope
The EHS (Environmental, Health, Safety) Generalist assists in managing the EHS programs. The incumbent works with the EHS Manager to drive the EHS culture throughout the business and is accountable for facilitating improved EHS performance, improved associate behavior relevant to EHS, and compliance with EHS regulations. Additionally, the position will be responsible for performing diagnosis of problems, repairs and necessary preventive maintenance on all plant equipment including automated machines, communication systems, alarms, and HVAC. Work will require an in-depth knowledge of various trade fundamentals sufficient to deal with repairs and installations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide administrative support to safety committee.
  • Assist in improvements aimed at reducing environmental risks. Promote environment protection and continued improvement practices.
  • Recommend improved EH&S practices.
  • Creates new EHS Work Instructions, forms and training requirements.
  • Coordinate all associate safety training as required.
  • Completes all required weekly, monthly and annual inspection as required; including eye wash station checks, fire extinguisher inspections, fire system inspections, emergency light inspections, temperature/humidity inspections.
  • Maintains safety postings, including Safety Metrics, Safety Committee Meeting Minutes, yearly OSHA requirements, Yearly Hazard Communication.
  • Leads Monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Maintains required SDS logs for all chemicals.
  • Maintains Universal Waste area.
  • Participates in annual EHS audit as required.
  • Performs annual Sound level Testing, Machine Guarding Assessment, Job Hazard Assessments.
  • Participates in all Accident Investigations.
  • Follows all pertinent company Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
  • Repairs complex electrical equipment including automated machines, controls, panels, relays, communication systems, and alarms.
  • Relocates and installs electrical and mechanical equipment with minimal instructions after general assignment.
  • Diagnoses problems and trouble shoots equipment failures; makes repairs or replaces parts.
  • Performs tests on equipment and makes necessary adjustments for successful operation of equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all plant equipment including automated machines, communication systems, alarms, and HVAC.
  • Completes routine paperwork as required
  • Operates production equipment to check work as required
  • Must be available for Call-In repairs on off shifts.
  • Provides technical assistance to Operators, Assemblers, etc.
  • Provides setup and breakdown for meetings, as instructed.
  • Support snow removal as required.
  • Coordinates CPR Training and maintains First Responders Team.
  • Manage and order spare parts inventory.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Typical Background
Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Advanced vocational / technical training a plus.

Certifications/Licensing:

  • N/A.

Years and Type of Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years previous maintenance mechanic experience in a fast-faced regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, PLC, basic troubleshooting, building maintenance, HVAC a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Federal and State Labor Laws, Health and Wellness, OSHA and TOSHA Regulations,

Key Required Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities:

  • Strong mechanical and machine aptitude.
  • Operation and knowledge general power equipment.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to train individuals on safety, health and environmental responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to research, prepare and format training to effectively present information to employees
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet.
  • Employs a methodical approach to maintenance tasks and issues, ability to prioritize a must.
  • Strong excellent interpersonal skills.
