The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Field Specialist I within the Water System Operations Group. This role supports safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship across facilities, with positions based in Jensen (Granada Hills) and Weymouth, and requires travel and on-site work.

You will learn and assist with developing EHS programs, inspections, training, and reporting to support a culture of safety and regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or four years of related experience in Environmental, Health and Safety.
• Valid California Class C Driver's License required at time of application.
• Cal/OSHA or EHS-related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

The Metropolitan Water District's Water System Operations Group has (1) openings for EHS Field Specialist I. The position is located at Jensen (Granada Hills).

In this role,you’ll serve as an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Field Specialist I, supporting Metropolitan’s commitment to safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship. You will learn and assistin providing environmental, health, and safety consultation, guidance, and compliance support across Metropolitan facilities. This is an opportunity to build foundational EHS experience while contributing to a mission-driven organization that protects both people and critical infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

• Learn and assist with the development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs.
• Learns and assists in EHS inspections, investigations, and compliance activities at assigned facilities.
• Preparing reports, documentation, and records related to EHS activities.
• Support the delivery of EHS training and safety awareness initiatives.
• Collaborate with staff across multiple disciplines and technical backgrounds to promote a culture of safety and compliance.
• Learns and assists with responding to emergency calls or events and ensures that proper Environmental, Health and Safety management procedures are followed.
• Work extended periods in remote locations away from the normal reporting site, as operational needs dictate.

Schedule: 4/10

The first position is based out of the Jensen office, with two days per week on‑site at Jensen and two days at Carson.

The second position is based out of the Weymouth office, with four days per week on‑site at that location.

Both roles require travel and the ability to provide support within Metropolitan’s Service area as needed.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS – MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field; or four years of experience in an applicable Metropolitan classification in a related field.
• Related Field is defined as: Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, or another directly related field.
• This classification performs work that requires maintaining confidentiality and is routinely privy to matters involving confidential information, sensitive personnel issues, or strategic corporate information.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

• License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during employment.
• Certification: California Gas Tester Certification (may be required to obtain and maintain).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
