Job summary

Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope Of Position

The EHS Engineer promotes a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for employees, visitors, and contractors by integrating environmental, health, and safety programs into plant strategy and daily operations. This role develops, implements, and administers EHS programs; drives continuous improvement in EHS performance; supports proactive prevention systems; and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and corporate requirements. The position requires strong technical knowledge of EHS principles, regulatory requirements, risk assessment methods, the hierarchy of controls, and human and organizational performance. Working under general direction, this role plans and executes work against defined objectives while providing technical support and coordinating projects with internal and external stakeholders.

Day To Day Responsibilities
  • Report to the EHS Manager on site EHS performance, priorities, risks, corrective actions, and progress against objectives.
  • Support and improve site EHS management systems, including ISO 14001, ECC, GSS, regulatory compliance programs, and corporate EHS expectations.
  • Develop, administer, and implement assigned environmental, health, and safety programs in accordance with governmental, corporate, and facility requirements.
  • Monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance activities, audits, inspections, and corrective action effectiveness.
  • Review environmental documents, permits, project specifications, purchases, and proposed process or equipment changes to determine EHS impacts and communicate requirements to engineering, operations, and leadership.
  • Evaluate processes and equipment for environmental impacts, health and safety risk, compliance implications, and opportunities for improved controls using risk assessment and hierarchy of controls methods.
  • Support plant process and permit changes by preparing or contributing to environmental documentation, impact assessments, and compliance evaluations.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local regulators, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve compliance matters and support audits, inspections, and permit requirements.
  • Analyze processes, trends, and situations to create information, identify improvement opportunities, and develop proactive prevention systems for anticipating and responding to events.
  • Provide EHS expertise, advice, information, and tools that enable effective safety and environmental management across the site.
  • Lead or support incident reviews, self-assessments, internal and external audits, and investigations, including corrective action development, ownership alignment, and closure tracking.
  • Serve as site owner, as assigned, for EHS compliance reporting, documentation, records, and recurring program reviews.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training, communications, and recurring reviews such as ISO reviews, incident reviews, contractor safety discussions, and program updates.
  • Represent EHS as a prime contact on projects and coordinate across functions when significant matters require alignment between organizations.
  • Support workers’ compensation, medical provider interactions, and return-to-work coordination as needed.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health/safety, environmental engineering, or relevant field
Required Experience
  • 5+ years of health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent
Required Skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001:2015, and other relevant regulations, standards, and corporate requirements.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulatory programs, permitting, compliance reporting, pollution prevention, audits, and regulatory agency interactions.
  • Understanding of health and safety management systems, risk assessment methods, hazard identification, hierarchy of controls, proactive prevention, and safety training delivery.
  • Ability to analyze processes and situations, convert data into actionable information, identify opportunities for positive change, and communicate risk-based recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement skills, including DMAIC and structured design/problem-solving methods.
  • Effective time and resource management to meet deadlines, close corrective actions, and sustain program requirements.
  • Ability to use EHS information systems and electronic databases such as Gensuite.
Desired Skills
  • Experience working in a dynamic manufacturing EHS setting.
  • Project management experience, including EHS support for construction, equipment installation, process change, or capital projects.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or related EHS credentials.
  • Familiarity with contractor safety systems such as ISNetworld.
  • Experience with Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), error-proofing, and control-focused risk reduction methods.
Soft Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and influence collaboratively across levels of the organization, including operations, engineering, management, employees, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Effective prioritization based on risk, compliance impact, and organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information, coordinate across organizations, and represent EHS professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

The range for this position is $88,484.00 - $121,666.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
