Job summary

SI Group is seeking an EHS Engineer to develop, implement, and administer EHS policies and procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance and a safe workplace at the Texas operations. Reporting to the Sr. Manager - EHS, Americas, the role focuses on training, emergency response, and field EHS tasks.

You will lead regulatory-required training, coordinate emergency readiness programs, and oversee incident investigations while driving safety performance across site operations in Texas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental or engineering with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience designing and delivering regulatory-required EHS training.
  • Experience leading OSHA VPP or similar safety programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, lead, and conduct regulatory-required training for personnel at Texas Operations.
  • Lead New Employee Orientation and refresher training on safety topics.
  • Represent SI Group as CAER/LEPC representative and ensure regulatory safety compliance.
  • Lead and sustain OSHA VPP Program as a STAR site and support ISO QA programs.
  • Perform field EHS tasks including LOTO, confined space, hot work, and other safety processes.
  • Conduct incident investigations and provide SME guidance on health and safety events.

Job description

As the EHS Engineer, reporting to the Sr. Manager - EHS, Americas, you will be responsible for development, implementation, and administration of EHS policies, programs, and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and a safe workplace, performs and manages training, coordinates emergency response program, and oversees and/or executes field EHS tasks.

How You Will Make an Impact:
EHS Management Systems and Compliance
  • Design, lead, and conduct regulatory-required training for all personnel at Texas Operations within areas of responsibility, ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and enhancing EHS culture.
  • Lead New Employee Orientation and refresher training in safety topics, ensuring all employees are well-informed and compliant with safety protocols.
  • Represent SI Group as a CAER and LEPC representative, advocating for and ensuring compliance with community and regulatory safety standards.
  • Lead and sustain the OSHA VPP Program as a STAR site, ensuring adherence to the Responsible Care Management System’s Guiding Principles and supporting SI Group’s ISO Quality programs.
  • Build and sustain constructive relationships with team members, site teams, and vendors/suppliers, enhancing SI Groups reputation as a leader in Emergency Response and Security.
  • Conduct incident investigation analysis for health and safety related events onsite and serve as incident investigation subject matter expert
EHS Field Execution
  • Provide technical support for field execution of key EHS tasks, serving as subject matter expert for EHS work processes, including Lockout Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Working at Height, Excavation, Critical Lift, Industrial Hygiene, etc
  • Complete execution of key EHS tasks, including field inspections
  • Serve as primary Confined Space Entry Authorizer for the site
  • Conduct field observations, audits, and employee engagement activities to verify training effectiveness, identify knowledge gaps, and implement corrective actions to improve EHS performance and compliance.
Emergency Readiness and Response
  • Design, lead, and implement training programs for the Emergency Response Team (Fire Brigade, Rescue, Medical, & Incident Commanders), ensuring continuous improvement and readiness.
  • Direct and oversee all fire training events/classes/schools for SI Group and assist with all CAER, mutual aid, and other outside events that involve SI Group.
  • Chair and lead the Hurricane Committee, driving strategic planning and execution of emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all training records related to emergency response and security activities, providing critical data for compliance and continuous improvement. on and off site for SI-TX as it relates to ER & Security activities
  • Manage and execute yearly inspections of Fire Extinguisher, SCBAs, Fire Hoses and all ER Fire and Rescue equipment, involving ERT team as appropriate.
  • Develop and evaluate robust testing mechanisms for training curricula, enhancing the effectiveness and relevance of emergency response training programs.
  • Lead and manage responses to site emergencies, providing decisive leadership and coordination of emergency teams, including fire, medical, rescue, and incident command teams
Training
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs, including new employee onboarding, regulatory compliance training, job-specific training, and recurring refresher training to ensure workforce competency and compliance with company requirements.
  • Maintain training matrices and training records, ensuring employee qualifications, certifications, and required recurrent training remain current and readily available for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
  • Lead the development, revision, and continuous improvement of EHS training materials, testing mechanisms, and competency assessments to enhance employee understanding and operational effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training related to critical EHS programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Permit to Work, Emergency Response, Hazard Recognition, Incident Investigation, and other site-specific safety initiatives.
Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental or engineering field with a minimum of 5 years experience. Chemical plant EHS experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common PC applications required
  • Training experience including development, implementation, and administration of systems/programs preferred
  • Emergency Response experience or program administration familiarity preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common PC applications required
  • Experience in LMS & Contractor Database applications preferred
