Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and manage safety/environmental policies and procedures to comply with OSHA rules.
  • Train managers and employees in site safety practices (fire protection, LOTO, fall protection, chemicals).
  • Lead safety initiatives and plant safety committee activities.
  • Inspect facilities to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Compile and submit accident/environmental reports to corporate and regulators.
  • Collaborate with HR on workers’ compensation programs and reduce lost time.
  • Maintain EH&S files and environmental permits; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead investigations of work incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Serve as a safety/environmental resource for managers and staff.
  • Complete government-mandated safety/environmental reports and perform admin duties.

Job Summary

Position Objective:
Coordinate plant wide safety and environmental programs for all employees to provide a safe, injury free workplace that complies with and exceeds all safety and environmental regulations. Serve as a resource, communicator, trainer, and solutions provider for problems identified and engage all employees while serving as a conduit for information related to safety and environmental projects and employee concerns. Comply with all mandated reporting and work with employees in a proactive manner to reduce injuries.

Job Description
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement and manage safety / environmental policies and procedures incompliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plan, implement and manage programs to train managers and employees in work sitesafety practices, for example, but not limited to fire protection, lockout/tagout, fallprotection and handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and othermaterials.
  • Lead all safety related activities for the facility, including safety related initiatives andplant safety committee.
  • Inspect organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards,determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follow up to ensuremeasures have been implemented.
  • Compile and submit accident and / or environmental reports required by NidecCorporate and regulatory agencies.
  • Work with plant Human Resources on the administration of workers’ compensationprograms, and Nidec Corporate and others to reduce employee lost time.
  • Maintain environmental, health and safety files and records in accordance with thecorporate record retention guidelines.
  • Ensure timely submittal, acquisition and maintenance of all environmental permits andreports to maintain compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Lead investigations of all work-related incidents/accidents, recommending correctiveaction to eliminate future similar incidents.
  • Act as a resource for managers and employees regarding safety and environmentalissues.
  • Report required OSHA information as well as the reporting that is required by company.
  • Complete government-mandated reports related to safety and environmental issues.
  • Administrative duties including filing, phone calls, tracking data
  • Write, review or update safety policies and procedures.
Experience/Skills
  • 1-3 years applicable experience, preferably in Manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience generating regulatory reporting and experience interpreting and complying with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910).
  • Previous experience with a safety team and training employees on proper safety and environmental work practices.
  • Experience with incident investigation and corrective actions.
  • Worker Compensation Certification a plus
  • OSHA (10/30), CPR, First Aid certification a plus
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental, Industrial Technology, or related field is preferred, or equivalent experience.
