Job summary

Owens Corning Rockford, IL plant is seeking an EHS Coordinator to lead safety and environmental initiatives. You will monitor compliance, manage inspections, train staff, and drive incident investigations to close gaps and prevent recurrence.

This hands-on role supports production while upholding regulatory requirements. Preferred 1–3 years EH&S experience in manufacturing, a Bachelor’s in EH&S (or similar), and a valid US work authorization.

Qualifications

  • Preferred 1-3 years EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or similar.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Related experience and/or training in an industrial environment.
  • Must provide proof of valid authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be drug and alcohol free.
  • Familiarity with various Environmental regulations (SPCC, CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, CWA, CAA, EPCRA, SARA).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in safety and environmental teams and programs as established within the plant to ensure gap closure.
  • Acts as a resource and ensures employee's ability to work safely and provides leadership during emergencies and special projects.
  • Supports learning from incident investigation to ensure on time gap closure.
  • Monitors, follows up and ensures completion of corrective actions for entries into the Incident Reporting System.
  • Maintains existing safety programs, systems, processes and documentation.
  • Maintains effective record keeping for all aspects of EH&S.
  • Conducts safety and environmental audits and trend analysis, ensuring all parameters are understood.
  • Conducts incident and near miss investigations with the assistance of the Plant EHS Lead.
  • Provides EH&S training facilitation and ensure method/procedure adherence.
  • Coordinates and communicates EHS issues with any plant personnel and can perform safety equipment inspections and initiates repair processes as needed.
  • Ensures safety standards and regulations are being met and followed.
  • Ensures environmental standards and regulations are being met and followed.
  • Train-the-Trainer qualified in job specific areas as necessary to (forklift trainer, HRC, Lock/Tag/Try, etc.).
  • Lead and drive EHS initiatives within the pillar and expansion areas.
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations & Maintenance teams to reduce risk within the plant.
  • Promotes the well-being of an injury-free life for all employees.
  • Complies with all plant rules, safety regulations and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

The job of EHS Coordinator is a vital position within the plant. It is an essential part of the production process and requires the employee to be alert, watchful, and engaged in the operations taking place in the plant. The EHS Coordinator is responsible for monitoring all safety, health & environmental procedures, and activities within the plant. The EHS Coordinator is required to assist with EH&S compliance tasks to maintain plant records and inspections.

Rockford Overview

The Owens Corning Rockford IL is a premier manufacturing facility that manufactures extruded polystyrene foam board insulation for primary use in the construction industry.

  • Non-union plant employing about 70 employees across 4 shifts; Maintenance team consists of 10 employees.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Uses knowledge of plant operations, specific safety issues, regulations and Corporate practices to implement improvements to safety in the plant.

  • Conducts environmental permit inspections to assist in maintaining all permit compliance.
  • Leads the plant inspection process and ensures all compliance inspections are performed on time.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred 1-3 years hands-on EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Environmental Health and Safety; or similar degree.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Related experience and/or training in an industrial environment.
  • Must provide proof of valid authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be drug and alcohol free.
