Job summary

McKenna Labs is seeking an EHS Coordinator to support environmental, health, and safety programs within a regulated personal care and OTC manufacturing environment. You will partner with all departments to minimize risk, ensure GMP-compliant operations, and maintain regulatory readiness in a fast-paced facility.

The role requires 2–5 years of EHS experience, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and knowledge of OSHA standards.

McKenna Labs is a full-service contract manufacturing company that specializes in hair, skin and body care products. We've been in the personal care development and manufacturing industry since 1998. We are seeking an EHS Coordinator who is passionate about safety.

The EHS Coordinator is responsible for supporting and administering environmental, health, and safety programs within a regulated personal care and OTC manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture and supporting GMP-compliant manufacturing operations. The EHS Coordinator partners with all departments to minimize risk, prevent incidents, and maintain regulatory readiness in a fast-paced, multi-customer environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

Safety & Health
  • Carry out responsibilities in compliance with company policies, work procedures, and federal, state and local laws. Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture across the organization; lead by example in observing every safety rule.
  • Implement and support EHS programs related to OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, ANSI, and general industry safety standards.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments for manufacturing, warehousing, production, and laboratory operations.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries; prepare root cause analyses and corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Maintain records for injuries and illnesses (OSHA 300 logs and related documentation).
  • Coordinate ergonomics, machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hot work programs.
  • Support contractor safety orientation and oversight.
  • Contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences.
Environmental Compliance
  • Assist with compliance related to hazardous waste, wastewater, air emissions, and chemical storage.
  • Manage safety data sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory systems, including raw materials, fragrances, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste accumulation, labeling, storage, and disposal in accordance with RCRA and local regulations.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, waste reduction, and pollution prevention programs.
Training and Communication
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training for new hires and existing employees.
  • Maintain EHS training records and ensure completion and retraining requirements are met.
  • Promote safety awareness through meetings, toolbox talks, and visual communications.
Regulatory & Audit Support
  • Support internal and external audits, including customer audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Assist with maintaining permits, reports, and records required by regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure EHS considerations align with GMP, FDA, and ISO expectations common in personal care and OTC manufacturing.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response coordination.
Continuous Improvement
  • Track and analyze safety and environmental metrics; prepare reports and trend analyses.
  • Recommend and help implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional teams in new product introductions, process changes, and equipment installations from an EHS perspective.
Requirements

To fulfill requirements of the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a high level. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety or a closely related discipline preferred; progressive industry experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of EHS experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in personal care, cosmetics, OTC, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or food industries.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry standards.
  • Experience with chemical handling and hazardous materials.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Effective trainer who can engage employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Comfortable working on the production and manufacturing floor.
