Job summary

Sonny’s Enterprises is seeking a Compliance and Safety Specialist to oversee safety programs and ensure a safe, accident-free workplace. You will implement OSHA-aligned policies, manage HazMat compliance, and supervise hazardous materials handling and testing.

The role includes training employees, maintaining SDS records, and coordinating with the Director of EHS on corrective actions. Travel and cross-department collaboration are expected.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years related experience; bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) preferred
• 10% domestic travel
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards
• Working knowledge of DOT hazardous materials transportation regulations (49 CFR)
• Experience managing Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and Hazard Communication (HazCom) programs
• Familiarity with wastewater management and environmental compliance requirements
• Experience with hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work with all levels of management
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Visio, Publisher
• DOT HazMat Certification or training preferred
• First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer a plus
• OSHA 10/30 Instructor a plus

Responsibilities

• Assists with developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs to reduce accidents and injuries.
• Plans, implements, communicates, and monitors safety policies per OSHA and HazMat rules.
• Ensures DOT HazMat compliance for safe handling and shipping documents with UN numbers.
• Maintains Safety Data Sheets and HazCom standards.
• Supports wastewater and environmental compliance programs.
• Audits safety and environmental program elements and schedules inspections.
• Leads safety training programs and new-employee onboarding.
• Maintains records for regulatory reports including HazMat shipping and SDS documentation.
