GSK is currently looking for an EHS Advisor to join our team in Rockville, MD. The EHS Advisor will be responsible for establishing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving the environment, health and safety programs for the GMS Rockville site. The EHS Advisor will have broad knowledge of EHS compliance programs and EHS specialty areas including Environmental Engineering and Risk Management. The EHS advisor will provide guidance in managing budgets to support outside services and operating expenses. The role includes strategic EHS planning as well as a tactical role for site-wide EHS management systems, EHS regulations, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

The role is responsible for advising the site leadership team on processes to improve EHS management and performance. The role is responsible for driving continuous improvement in site environmental performance and will serve as a site contact with regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, DOT, OSHA, etc.) and with GSK Corporate EHS Department.

The role will also:

  • Develop and maintain environmental compliance systems and programs.
  • Conduct, review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents and near-misses to ensure that they are effective, and that they identify and resolve root causes.
  • Provide timely, high quality EHS technical support.
  • Design, conduct and oversee EHS training.
  • Develop and manage an internal audit program to assess compliance with legal and company requirements and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct EHS impact assessments to identify the site's key environmental priorities.
  • Maintain site EHS policies, procedures, objectives, key performance indicators and targets that reflect local needs and alignment with GSK's long term EHS strategy.
  • Review change proposals (including capital projects and new product introductions) to identify potential EHS issues and participate in their resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and cross functional team members and leaders at Rockville, other GSK sites in North America, and around the world to ensure that EHS best practices and lessons from adverse events are shared effectively.
  • Ensure that necessary EHS information is reported to local regulators and to stakeholders within GSK.
  • Facilitate EHS governance meetings as assigned.
  • Lead EHS improvement projects as assigned.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a Science, Engineering, or EHS discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in EHS consulting, or EHS program development and implementation
  • Must be able to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Professional certification (e.g., PE, CHMM, CIH, CSP) is preferred. An advanced degree is desirable
  • Thorough understanding of key regulatory requirements (e.g., EPA OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, and NFPA rules, regulations, and standards) and their application to a manufacturing and laboratory environment, particularly in the following key areas: Environment, eg waste management, air emissions, wastewater treatment, energy efficiency, and sustainability
  • Hazardous material/dangerous goods transportation
  • EHS management systems
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent computer skills primarily with Microsoft Office Suite and Project
  • Highly effective written, oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects
The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $100,650 to $167,750 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate's skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
