Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated (JLL) is seeking an EHHS Specialist to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs across operations. You will partner with operations leadership to drive a culture of safety while ensuring regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.

The role reports to the EHHS Manager or Facilities Management leadership and focuses on SOP creation, risk assessment, audits, and incident investigations in a facilities setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years in health, safety, and environmental management in facilities/industrial settings.
  • Experience with OSHA, EPA, DOT regulatory processes.
  • Proven experience with internal safety audits and incident investigations.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop SOPs for health, safety, hygiene, and environmental protection.
  • Ensure OSHA/EPA/DOT compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Lead incident investigations and CAPA development.
  • Establish risk registers and governance frameworks across the organization.

The Environment, Health, Hygiene and Safety (EHHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health, safety, and environmental protection programs to ensure workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship across all organizational operations. This role serves as a strategic partner to operations leadership, driving a culture of safety excellence while ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and industry best practices. The EHHS Specialist operates under the direct supervision and guidance of the EHHS Manager or Facilities Management leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy & Procedure CreationDevelop comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) covering all aspects of workplace health, safety, hygiene, and environmental protectionCreate detailed workflow documentation including process maps, risk assessment matrices, and emergency response protocolsEstablish governance frameworks with clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability structures across all organizational levelsDesign quality control checkpoints and validation processes to ensure consistent program executionImplement document control systems with version management, regular review cycles, and stakeholder approval processes
  • Regulatory Compliance & Standards ManagementEnsure strict compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.)Monitor and interpret evolving regulatory requirements and implement necessary program updatesMaintain comprehensive compliance documentation and prepare for regulatory inspectionsConduct systematic compliance audits and gap analysesDevelop and maintain permits, licenses, and regulatory reporting systems
  • Risk Assessment & Hazard MitigationProactively identify and evaluate workplace hazards through regular safety inspections, job hazard analyses, and environmental monitoringConduct comprehensive risk assessments for new equipment, processes, and facility modificationsDevelop and implement hazard control hierarchies (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE)Create and maintain risk registers with prioritized mitigation strategiesImplement preventive identification processes through predictive analytics and trend analysis
  • Incident Response & InvestigationLead thorough incident investigations including detailed root cause analyses using systematic methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA)Develop and implement effective corrective and preventive action plans (CAPAs)Create incident tracking systems with categorization protocols (severity, type, location, contributing factors)Establish escalation matrices defining response timeframes, responsible parties, and communication requirementsCoordinate emergency response activities and manage crisis communicationsPrepare incident reports and regulatory notifications as required
Required Qualifications
  • EducationMinimum: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related fieldPreferred: Advanced degree (Master's) in Safety, Environmental, or related discipline
  • ExperienceRequired: 3-5 years of progressive experience in health, safety, and environmental management in industrial, commercial, or facilities settingsIndustry Experience: 3+ years in facilities management, manufacturing, construction, or related fieldRegulatory Experience: Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulatory agenciesAudit Experience: Experience conducting internal safety audits and supporting external regulatory inspectionsIncident Investigation: Proven track record conducting thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses
  • Professional Certifications (Preferred)Certified Safety Professional (CSP)Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)Associate Safety Professional (ASP)OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certificationEnvironmental certifications (RCRA, DOT Hazmat, etc.)
  • Technical SkillsSafety & Environmental SystemsProficiency in safety management systems and incident tracking platformsExperience with environmental compliance management softwareKnowledge of industrial hygiene monitoring equipment and techniquesFamiliarity with chemical inventory and SDS management systemsCompetence with audit and inspection management tools
