Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience including safety program development, risk assessment, incident investigation, and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT/RCRA; ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 alignment.
  • Hands-on experience with fall protection, confined space, powered industrial vehicles, machine guarding, ergonomics, and electrical safety.
  • Experience designing and facilitating EHS training for site personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop annual EH&S plans with goals, targets, audits, and training to reduce injuries and drive improvement.
  • Analyze and implement action plans to ensure regulatory compliance and program alignment.
  • Establish risk assessments, hazard identification, PPE controls, and safe work practices.
  • Lead training development and delivery to ensure regulatory and Corning requirements are met.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide guidance to remote engineering stakeholders to foster a safety culture.
  • Perform EH&S data trending, reporting, and identify gaps for improvement.
  • Coordinate internal EH&S audits and inspections.
  • Maintain Emergency Response Plan and respond to incidents.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local regulations; manage materials handling per DOT/RCRA.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Position Description

Corning is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) professional to lead strategic safety programs within our Engineering Services organization. In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain EH&S programs aligned with OSHA, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation / Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (DOT/RCRA), and ISO 14001 & 45001 standards — while building a culture of continuous improvement and employee safety.

Job Description

  • Develop of annual EH&S plans including short term and long-term goals, objectives, targets, training, audits, etc. to reduce injuries/illnesses and drive continuous improvement.
  • Analyzes, develops, and implements action plans, processes, and procedures to control EH&S risks for achieving compliance with regulatory standards, Corning safety and improvement initiatives.
  • Establishes processes to conduct suitable and sufficient assessments that actively identify hazards and reduce risk including hazard identification & risk assessments, job safety analysis, PPE and hazardous energy.
  • Evaluates, develops, and conducts training in all aspects of EH&S to ensure compliance with legal and Corning requirements and in a manner that positively engages employee behaviors.
  • Works collaboratively to investigate incidents & implement actions that reduce the risk of re-occurrence.
  • Provide guidance to remote engineering stakeholders on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that build and sustain a safety culture consistent with Corning’s values.
  • Performs trending analysis to improve EH&S performance by gathering data, developing reports, identifying gaps, evaluating risks and implementing improvements.
  • Organizes, evaluates, and participates in internal audits and inspections.
  • Ensure the Emergency Response Plan remains current with regulatory requirements and site needs. Responds to emergency events and makes provisions to mitigate/control the effects and begin to restore the situation to normal operations.
  • Keep abreast of federal, state and local environmental, safety, and health regulations, review technical literature.
  • Manage Site Hazardous Materials via Warehouse Dangerous Goods Program and DOT/RCRA regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, related engineering, or physical sciences
  • 5+ years of EHS experience including safety program development, risk assessment, incident investigation, and documentation
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT/RCRA regulations; experience aligning programs to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • Hands-on experience with fall protection, confined space entry, powered industrial vehicles, machine guarding, ergonomics, and electrical safety programs
  • Experience designing and facilitating EHS training courses for site personnel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field or ASP/CSP certification (may be considered in lieu of a portion of the experience requirement)
  • Experience implementing programs aligned to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) or other state environmental standards
  • Experience with SharePoint

The range for this position is $107,662.00 - $148,035.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
