Job summary

Bonduelle Americas is seeking an EHS Specialist to strengthen our safety culture at the Irwindale facility. You will drive incident investigations, risk assessments, and EHS program administration while ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

The role requires bilingual English/Spanish communication, strong documentation discipline, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. DOE applies for compensation within a $70k-$85k range.

Qualifications

• Fluent in English and Spanish with strong written and verbal skills.
• Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations (Cal/OSHA, EPA, CALARP, CUPA).
• Proven ability to document regulatory, incident, training and compliance records accurately.
• Experience conducting investigations using structured methods.
• Ability to manage multiple investigations and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Experience with transportation safety programs (DOT/FMCSA).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with ammonium hydroxide preferred.

Position Summary:

The EHS Specialist will serve as a member of the EHS Department. This position will support the ongoing efforts to create an Incident and Injury Free Culture at BA while ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and internal company policies and procedures.

Under the general direction of the EHS manager, the successful candidate provides guidance and handles complex hazard assessments and unique, one-of-a-kind EHS issues that have significant health and safety aspects in support of the BA service activities and products through the EHS Department.

What you will do:

Health & Safety

• Serve as a primary EHS resource for assigned operations and second-shift activities, maintaining a visible presence on the production floor and actively engaging associates, supervisors, and managers on workplace safety.
• Lead workplace incidents, injury, and near-miss investigations from initial response through closure, including evidence collection, employee and witness interviews, review of available documentation and video, causal analysis, corrective action development, and follow-up.
• Support operations when conducting formal root cause analyses using recognized investigation methodologies and tools, including 8D, Fishbone/Ishikawa, 5 Whys, and TapRooT®.
• Drive accountability for corrective and preventive actions resulting from incidents, near misses, inspections, audits, risk assessments, and regulatory findings.
• Support and coordinate workers' compensation case management, including incident documentation, transitional/modified duty, and return-to-work activities.
• Conduct workplace hazard assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and routine EHS inspections to proactively identify and mitigate unsafe conditions and behaviors.
• Lead and administer assigned EHS programs, including Control of Hazardous Energy/Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), Electrical Safety/NFPA 70E, Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), chemical safety, emergency preparedness, fire prevention, and other applicable programs.
• Lead safety inspections, compliance audits, and other assessment programs; communicate findings and drive timely corrective action.
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training to Associates, supervisors, and managers as required by regulation, company policy, or identified operational needs.
• Actively participate in and provide technical guidance to the site Safety Committee.
• Participate in operational and departmental meetings to communicate EHS performance, emerging risks, regulatory requirements, incidents, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities.
• Respond promptly to employee safety concerns, reported hazards, and operational EHS issues,
• Maintain accurate and complete EHS records, reports, investigation documentation, training records, regulatory documentation and other required files.
• Monitor applicable regulatory requirements and changes and assist with implementing necessary changes to maintain site compliance.
• Partner with plant associates to promote accountability, employee engagement, hazard recognition, and a proactive safety culture.
• Lead and support assigned environmental compliance programs applicable to facility operations, including hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater, stormwater/SWPPP, and waste management.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be fluent in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and writing.
• Must be able to be flexible to adjust working hours as necessary to support operational and business needs,
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state occupational safety and health regulations, including Cal/OSHA, EPA, CALARP, CUPA.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate regulatory, incident, training, and compliance documentation.
• Demonstrated sense of urgency, accountability, initiative, and follow-through when responding to incidents, hazards, compliance concerns, and operational needs.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, investigations, projects, and cases simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, influence others, and hold stakeholders accountable for EHS expectations and corrective actions.
• Experience with DOT/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) compliance and transportation safety programs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience with ammonium hydroxide preferred.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field, with 5–7 years of relevant EHS experience.
• Master of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environment or a related discipline preferred, with 3–5 years of relevant EHS experience.
• 5+ years of EHS experience in food manufacturing, food processing, packaging, or a comparable high-paced manufacturing environment preferred.
