TAP Engineering is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Officer to support advanced research and engineering initiatives across quantum computing, photonics, and microelectronics. This role acts as the primary EH&S contact, ensuring regulatory compliance and safety best practices across labs and projects.

The position emphasizes developing SOPs, incident investigations, and cross-functional collaboration to implement remediation plans and safe practices for staff and facilities.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• 11+ years of relevant experience without a degree; or 7+ years with a related bachelor’s.
• Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Strong understanding of EH&S standards and practices.
• Experience supporting laboratory, research, or technical environments.
• Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison with environmental health and safety stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain environmental and safety SOPs.
• Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure proper reporting and documentation.
• Oversee decontamination procedures and support incident response activities.
• Identify and address EH&S concerns proactively.
• Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement remediation plans.
• Support scientific staff in developing SOPs that incorporate safe practices.
• Maintain and manage hazardous chemical inventory.
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation including SDS for all materials.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
• Ensure availability and condition of protective equipment and safety gear.
• Maintain and distribute safety-related documentation and guidance.
• Coordinate with emergency services and support emergency response efforts.

Required Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
• One of the following experience requirements:
• 11+ years of relevant experience without a degree
• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 7+ years of experience
• Master's degree in a related discipline with 5+ years of experience
• Strong understanding of environmental health and safety standards and practices
• Experience supporting laboratory, research, or technical environments
• Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  

Preferred Qualifications

• CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification
• Experience with hazardous materials handling and compliance
• Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental compliance frameworks
• Experience conducting safety audits and risk assessments
• Demonstrated ability to implement and improve safety programs in technical environments
  
  

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $125,000–$175,000, based on relevant experience, qualifications, and other applicable factors. The compensation range provided is a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary.

Clearance Requirement

This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance with Polygraph. Clearance processing and maintenance will be conducted in accordance with U.S. Government requirements.
