Position Overview

The EH&S Manager – Enrichment Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) function supporting BWXT's uranium enrichment operations. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving comprehensive environmental, occupational health, industrial safety, waste management, and regulatory compliance programs that enable safe, reliable, and compliant operations across the Centrifuge Manufacturing Development Facility (CMDF), Centrifuge Manufacturing Facility (CMF), and future enrichment-related operations.

Operating within a highly regulated environment, the EH&S Manager serves as a trusted advisor to operational leadership, ensuring safety is integrated into every aspect of planning, manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, commissioning, and facility operations. The position champions a proactive safety culture built on operational discipline, human performance improvement (HPI), continuous risk reduction, and environmental stewardship while supporting the organization's mission of delivering critical national security capabilities.

The successful candidate will balance strategic planning with day-to-day execution, driving measurable improvements in safety performance, regulatory compliance, employee engagement, and operational excellence.

Your Day To Day As An EH&S Manager
  • Develops and executes the site’s strategic Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) roadmap aligned with corporate objectives, ensuring long‑term planning supports operational and regulatory expectations.
  • Fosters a world‑class safety culture through leadership engagement, employee ownership, accountability, hazard reporting, and continuous learning, while conducting field observations, safety walks, and GEMBA activities.
  • Serves as the principal advisor to operations leadership on environmental compliance, occupational health, industrial safety, regulatory requirements, and risk management across all functional areas.
  • Integrates EH&S into operational planning, manufacturing readiness, engineering changes, commissioning activities, new program execution, and equipment or facility design reviews to ensure hazard controls and safe work practices.
  • Builds strong cross‑functional partnerships with Operations, Engineering, Licensing, Quality, Security, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Program Management to proactively identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational risk.
  • Drives continuous improvement through leading indicators, trend analysis, root cause methodologies, and performance metrics, recommending operational improvements and capital investments that enhance compliance, sustainability, and worker safety.
  • Ensures organizational readiness for internal audits, customer assessments, and regulatory inspections; coordinate these activities and maintains regulatory documentation supporting compliance and operational readiness.
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains EH&S standards, policies, procedures, operating expectations, and hazard control programs, exercising stop‑work authority when unsafe or non‑compliant conditions arise.
  • Leads investigations involving significant safety, environmental, operational events, injuries, near misses, process deviations, or high‑potential incidents, ensuring structured root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Monitors corrective action effectiveness, verify timely closure of findings, and share organizational lessons learned to prevent recurrence, supporting the Corrective Action Program (CAP).
  • Leads environmental compliance programs ensuring adherence to EPA, state, local, federal, and corporate environmental requirements, overseeing air emissions, waste management, stormwater, wastewater, chemical management, pollution prevention, and environmental monitoring.
  • Ensures environmental permits, reports, inspections, and regulatory submissions are accurate and on schedule, while developing long‑term environmental sustainability and compliance improvement strategies.
  • Leads comprehensive occupational safety programs across manufacturing, maintenance, laboratories, testing, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness, ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable consensus standards.
  • Oversees industrial hygiene programs covering exposure monitoring, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, ergonomics, asbestos, lead, and hazardous material controls, ensuring proper evaluation of new equipment or processes for adequate hazard controls.
  • Leads hazard identification activities including job hazard analyses, process hazard reviews, risk assessments, and operational safety evaluations, supporting engineered and administrative controls and safe work practices.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to integrate safety into equipment design, manufacturing processes, and facility modifications, supporting readiness reviews, startup activities, and Operational Readiness Reviews (ORRs).
  • Champions Human Performance Improvement (HPI), behavior‑based safety, operational discipline, and leadership accountability programs, coaching supervisors and managers to model effective safety leadership.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, Tennessee environmental regulations, and corporate policies, coordinating regulatory inspections, customer audits, internal compliance assessments, and follow‑up corrective action plans.
  • Supports emergency preparedness, emergency response teams, fire protection, spill response, evacuation planning, crisis management exercises, and business continuity activities, coordinating drills and emergency training.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive EH&S performance metrics including: Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Days Away, Restricted or Transferred (DART), lost time incident rate, near‑miss reporting, leading safety indicators, Corrective Action Program (CAP) performance, environmental compliance metrics, audit performance, training completion, industrial hygiene exposure trends, regulatory findings, safety observation participation.
  • Prepares executive‑level reports and dashboards communicating organizational performance, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible EH&S leadership experience within highly regulated industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading environmental compliance and occupational safety programs supporting complex manufacturing operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and DOE/NNSA regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations utilizing formal root cause methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success implementing safety culture improvement initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, and influencing skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Experience supporting DOE, NNSA, NRC, nuclear fuel cycle, uranium enrichment, aerospace, defense, chemical processing, or other high‑consequence operations.
  • Experience supporting startup, commissioning, or operational readiness of new manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience implementing Human Performance Improvement (HPI) principles.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Experience with digital EH&S management systems, corrective action databases, environmental monitoring platforms, and data analytics tools.

Pay: $115,000 - $180,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US‑TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $115,000 and $180,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at‑will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
