Job summary

Flex is seeking an EH&S Engineer for its Austin, TX site. The role reports to the EH&S Manager and focuses on developing, implementing and monitoring environmental safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

You will consult with departments, inspect machinery for safety, and train workers on safety practices. Ideal candidates bring a Bachelor’s in Engineering/Environment/Health Sciences (Master’s preferred) and 7+ years in EH&S, with experience managing

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Typically 7+ years of experience in EH&S or related position.
• Experience managing people or direct reports preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consult with all departments on design and use of equipment, fire prevention and safety programs.
• Inspect plans and specifications for new machinery to ensure safety precautions.
• Tour plant to inspect safety equipment and facilities for hazards and compliance.
• Define safety clothing requirements and install safety devices on machinery.
• Coordinate safety training for workers on emergency policies and practices.
• Investigate industrial accidents and prepare reports to minimize recurrence.
• Conduct air quality tests for harmful gases and vapors.
• Identify health and safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Advise business units on ergonomics, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene and safety matters.
• Audit business units for safety compliance.
• Interface with vendors and contractors on health and safety matters.
• Compile and submit safety reports.
• Administer workers compensation, OSHA 2000 log and return to work programs.

Reporting to the EH&S Manager, the EH&S Engineer will be responsible of developing, implementing and monitoring company environmental safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, fire prevention and safety programs.
• Examines plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to define if all safety precautions have been included.
• Tours plant to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Define requirements for safety clothing and devices, and designs, builds, and installs or directs installation of safety devices on machinery.
• Conducts or coordinates safety training to educate workers about emergency acknowledge, safety policies, laws and practices.
• Investigates industrial accidents to minimize recurrence and prepares accident reports.
• Conducts air quality tests for presence of harmful gases and vapors.
• In charge of identifying health and safety hazards and recommending corrective actions.
• Serves as internal consultant to business units on ergonomics, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene and fire and chemical safety matters.
• Audits business units.
• Interfaces with outside vendors, contractors and engineers regarding facilities, chemicals and other workplace health and safety related matters.
• Compiles and submits safety reports.
• Administers workers compensation, OSHA 2000 log and return to work program.

Qualifications:

• Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environment or Health Sciences or equivalent experience in EH&S and knowledge of related regulations, codes, and guidelines.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Typically requires a minimum of 7+ years of experience in EH&S or related position.
• Managing people / Direct reports experience preferred.
