Job summary

UPMC seeks an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to support licensed clinicians under supervision in a fast-paced dental clinic. Responsibilities include assisting with restorative and surgical procedures, radiographs, impressions, and sterilization while maintaining accurate patient records.

Ideal candidates possess EFDA certification, radiology certification, BLS, and at least one year of dental assisting experience. Pennsylvania licensure and clearances must be maintained as required.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an approved Dental Assistant Program.
• Must have a certificate from an approved Expanded Function Dental Assistant Program.
• Experience: At least one year as a Dental Assistant; radiology certification required.
• Maintain Pennsylvania expanded function dental assistant license; continuing education required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Act 33/Act 34/Act 73 FBI Clearances with renewal.

Responsibilities

• Assist dentist and oral surgeons within scope of practice as a Dental Assistant/EFDA under direct supervision.
• Perform restorative procedures as directed; take impressions; fabricate temporary crowns and trays.
• Assist with radiographs, sterilization, infection control, and operatory organization.
• Prepare and maintain supplies; document dental treatment in patient records.
• Support training of dental assistant students and rotations.
• Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and proper handling of biohazard waste.
