Job summary

Tanner Health System is seeking an EEG Technician to assist in electroencephalographic testing, sleep studies, and related procedures. The role includes preparing patients, explaining tests, and maintaining equipment with strict adherence to care standards.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: One year of related experience. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for medical procedures by obtaining medical histories and explaining proposed procedures of the test to be performed.
• Conducts electroencephalographic testing and evaluate patterns formed by the brain to assist in the diagnosis of epilepsy, cardiovascular disease, or other brain lesions.
• Assist in nerve conduction studies to evaluate electrical potentials from peripheral nerve.
• Conducts polysomnograms to identify, evaluate dysfunction in the sleep wake cycles and breathing disorders or arrhythmias during sleep.
• Conducts electronystamograms measuring electrical potentials from the eyes to determine between inner ear disfunctions and central nervous system involvement.
• Oversees proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
• Keeps proper records of tests, results, diagnosis and subsequent patient treatment.
• Assists Sleep Lab staff with scheduling of appointments for both Sleep and EEG patients
• Assists Sleep Lab staff with distribution and intake of home study testing equipment.
• Provides exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and other employees.
• Responsible for maintaining all professional registrations and certifications
• Participates in performance improvement activities by helping to identify, monitor and achieve improvement goals established by the department.
• Acts as preceptor/mentor for students and new employees
• Knowledgeable of department policies and procedures and standards of care/practice
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of department and equipment
• Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision making process for all ages of the population(s) served.
• Accurately evaluates self and meets pre-established professional goals
• Maintain current CPR or BLS certification
• Communicates effectively and therapeutically in health care setting
• Demonstrates the ability to set priorities to complete daily assignments
• Participates in multi disciplinary patient care conferences.
• Participates in continuing education as mandated per policy.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download
• Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices
• Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by management.
