Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Michigan seeks an EEG Technologist I to join the Neurophysiology Department. The technician will monitor patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) or during an 8-hour video EEG (VEEG), ensuring patient safety and data integrity.

Responsibilities include maintaining continuous monitoring, electrode placement verification, prepping patients, documenting events, and collaborating with nursing staff and physicians to address clinical observations and emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Six months or more experience in a patient care environment.
  • Enrollment in or graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited Electrodiagnostic (END) program preferred.
  • Current BLS certification is required.

  • Ensure electrode integrity and proper placement on patients for optimal signal quality.
  • Prepare patients for EEG monitoring by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.
  • Monitor EEG equipment and displays, troubleshoot issues, and alert staff to malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of monitoring activities, observations, and seizures.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a safe monitoring environment.
  • Communicate with nursing staff, physicians, and other team members regarding patient status.
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies following established protocols.
  • Perform shift handoffs to ensure continuity of care.

Job Description

EEG Technologist I is a position in the Neurophysiology Department. The technician will maintain patient safety while patients are being monitored in the EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) or while undergoing an 8-hour VEEG (video EEG). Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain continuous visual monitoring and tracking of epilepsy patients (2-8 patients) via camera and bedside observation throughout assigned shifts
  • Ensure electrode integrity and proper placement on patients, verifying secure attachment and optimal signal quality
  • Prepare patients for EEG monitoring by explaining procedures, positioning electrodes, and addressing patient concerns to promote comfort and compliance
  • Monitor EEG equipment and displays for proper functioning, troubleshooting minor technical issues, and alerting supervisory staff to equipment malfunctions
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient monitoring activities, behavioral observations, and any clinical events or seizure activity
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean, safe monitoring environment for patients and staff
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status and clinical observations
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies, following established protocols and escalation procedures
  • Perform shift handoff procedures, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication with incoming technicians
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Six months or more experience working in a patient care environment.
  • Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited Electrodiagnostic (END) program, is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Current BLS certification.
