Job summary

ExoTerra seeks an EEE Component Engineer to lead component evaluation, BOM integrity, and procurement coordination across cross-functional teams. The role focuses on improving procurement processes, maintaining BOM accuracy, and ensuring compliance with aerospace quality standards.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with MIL‑STD/ESA standards, obsolescence management, and the ability to present technical changes to customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering is required.
  • 6+ years of experience in component evaluation and selection, preferably in aerospace/defense/high-precision industries.
  • Experience with aerospace or defense standards (MIL‑STD, ASTM, ESA) and other relevant standards.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple product BOMs and ensuring contract/quality compliance.
  • Ability to present component changes to customers with clear technical reasoning.
  • Experience with obsolescence management tools and finding alternate parts.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly evaluate BOMs for obsolescence, single-source parts, and high-risk concerns.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Inventory, and Quality to ensure compliant procurement.
  • Assist design and purchasing in recommending and approving alternate parts.
  • Develop best practices for component procurement and selection.
  • Make Life Time Buy decisions when parts go obsolete.
  • Enable timely product delivery through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with customer quality requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

ExoTerra designs and manufactures the propulsion systems that move spacecraft farther, longer, and more efficiently. As a leader in electric propulsion, we develop and produce Hall thrusters, propulsion modules, and power electronics at scale, supporting a growing range of space missions and constellations. With the recent announcement of ExoTerra joining Voyager Technologies, we are better positioned than ever to advance next‑generation in‑space propulsion.

Position Summary

The EEE Component Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing process improvements to ExoTerra’s component selection, procurement, and storage. In addition, the CE will maintain the integrity of all product line BOMs, coordinate with purchasing to keep up with production component demands, and will consult on cost, lead time, part availability, and any extraneous requirements for new potential contracts. This position works closely with cross-functional teams to support ExoTerra’s mission, technical objectives, and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regularly evaluateProduct BOM’sfor parts that have become obsolete,for single source parts, and forother high-risk concerns.
  • Coordinate withPurchasing, Inventory, Systems, and Quality groups to ensure parts fulfilling Contractual and ExoTerra Quality requirements are procured.
  • Assist the Design and Purchasing Teamswith recommending and approving alternate parts for purchase.
  • Develop Best Practices for Component Procurement and Selectionand enable the Design Team to make appropriate component selection.
  • MakeLife TimeBuy (LTB) decisionswhen approved components on Product BOM’s go obsolete.
  • Enable prompt and timelyproduct delivery through collaboration with the different technical and administrative groups.
  • Ensure compliance with customer quality requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and best practices
  • Additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree inElectrical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experienceincomponent evaluation and selection, preferably in aerospace, defense, electronics, or other high‑precision industries.
  • Experience withaerospace or defensestandards, including MIL‑STD, ASTM,ESA,and other relevant standards.
  • Proficiencywithmanaging multiple product BOM’s,ensuring compliance with contractual and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrate competence inpresenting component changes to customerswith technical reasoning to support changes
  • ProficiencywithObsolescence Management toolslike Silicon Experts.
  • Demonstratecompetence infindingAlternate partswhen needed by the design team or the purchasing team.
  • Ability towrite test plans and evaluate test reportsfor components needing to beup-screenedor analyzed for root cause failure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding ofvarious MIL Standards, ECSS Standards, and ESCC Standardsapplicable tocomponent procurement and testing for different quality levels of space flight hardware.
  • Understanding ofMaterial interactions and prohibitionsas it pertains to EEE components.
  • Experience withcreating engineering drawingsfor EEE components.
  • Experience working on variousIPT’s to assess, test, and approvenew parts on a qualified BOM.
  • Understanding ofcomponent failure modesby commodity.
  • Familiarity withinventory management systems.
  • Basicunderstanding ofNucleareffectson EEE parts.
  • Basicunderstanding of worst-case analysis (WCA) / EEE parts deratingand end of life requirements.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in an office environment
  • Able to meet program deadlines and occasional schedule flexibility

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Competitive salary range: [$120000 – $150000] (dependent on experience and qualifications)
