EEC Teacher, Preschool - Part Time

West Suburban YMCA | Newton, MA

Pay Range

$17.00/hr - $24.00/hr

Hours

Part‑time schedule between 10:00 am and 5:15 pm (program needs may vary).

Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. It provides direction for children in the classroom and implements program curriculum, delivering a quality experience that fosters achievement and belonging among youth and within families.

Essential Functions
  • Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Create and submit weekly curriculum plans in advance according to the director’s instructions.
  • Nurture children through purposeful programming focused on building achievement and belonging.
  • Supervise children, classroom, and all activities, including ADA accommodations where appropriate, following all procedures and standards.
  • Assist Lead Teacher with systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Develop positive relationships, conduct parent conferences, and maintain effective communication with parents—engaging parents as volunteers and connecting them to the YMCA.
  • Maintain program site and equipment.
  • Assist in preparing the classroom for activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Maintain required program records.
  • Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • EEC Teacher Certificate.
  • Minimum of 9 months supervised work experience if completed 3 college credits in Child Development coursework.
  • OR Minimum of 3 months supervised work experience if obtained an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • OR Minimum of 6 months supervised work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated field.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality in reporting for work.
  • Experience with diverse populations; ability to build authentic relationships across backgrounds.
  • Understanding that the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and ADA compliance.

  • Activities in various indoor/outdoor settings, including a swimming pool for swimming lessons.
