Job Responsibilities
- Support resolution of current Oracle production issues and participate in the Oracle Duty Phone on-call rotation, escalating to senior DBAs as needed. Candidate should have working experience with cloud databases, including AWS RDS Postgres, DocumentDB, and MongoDB. Hands-on experience supporting database migrations from on-premises to cloud is required.
- Oracle Database Management: Administer and maintain Oracle databases, following established policies and procedures to ensure database security and integrity.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance, recommend and implement tuning changes, and apply patches and version upgrades as directed.
- Oracle Failover and Recovery: Execute and test database backup, recovery, and failover procedures in accordance with established strategies and plans.
- Migration and Upgrade: Participate in migration projects from on-premises databases to AWS, performing assigned planning, execution, and validation tasks for database migrations and upgrades.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls and audit logging, in compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations.
- Data Warehousing: Administer and support Databricks instances and other data warehousing solutions, including tuning structures and queries for efficient data storage and analysis.
- Monitoring: Use AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to track database health and performance, and configure automated scaling and notifications.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, replication, and log shipping issues, escalating complex problems to senior DBAs as appropriate.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Database Experience: Proven experience as a DBA administering Oracle databases, with working experience in Databricks.
- Failover and Recovery: Experience performing database failover, backup, and recovery procedures.
- Migration Experience: Experience supporting the migration of on‑premises databases to AWS.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in SQL, with working knowledge of database design and data modeling. Familiarity with AWS CLI, SDKs, and CloudWatch.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Certifications: AWS or relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, PostgreSQL Professional).
- AWS Managed Databases: Experience with AWS database services, including Aurora and RDS.
- Scripting Skills: Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks.
- Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with database monitoring tools, especially AWS CloudWatch, for performance monitoring and alerting.
- Data Warehousing: Experience supporting data warehouse implementation and optimization. Experience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC).
- Experience with MongoDB.
- Experience with BigQuery.

- Clearance – Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
- Citizenship – Must be a US Citizen
- Location – Hybrid with on-site (Ashburn, VA) visits 1 day per week and if a mission need. *This team utilizes an on-call schedule which may require travel to the datacenter site.
