Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) seeks an Educator I to teach, advise, mentor medical students, and pursue scholarly research activities within the SOM-BIO program.

You will prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, develop conference materials, and contribute to curriculum and educational program development while coordinating with faculty and committees.

Job Description

HJF is seeking an Educator I to serve in teaching, research, and service roles. The instructor will teach courses, serve as an academic advisor, advise medical students for Capstone projects, and pursue a program of research as well as related duties. The instructor will also prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and develop presentations for scholarly educational and research conferences.

This position will be in support of School of Medicine’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SOM-BIO).

This contract is not to exceed one year.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching courses consistent with areas of expertise, specifically biochemistry and organic chemistry.
  • Assist in the planning and development of curriculum, develop courses, and assume teaching responsibilities to prepare students for advanced clinical, research, and organizational leadership roles.
  • Actively participating in research lab activities and conducting primary experiments. Designing and executing bench research, generating experimental data, and maintaining active involvement in the department's ongoing laboratory research initiatives.
  • Preparing materials for presentation, providing student supervision in lab research and practicums, and reviewing student performance.
  • Providing significant input into educational programs within their areas of expertise and presenting lectures both within and outside areas of expertise and interest.
  • Serving on academic committees and helping with administrative tasks related to teaching and research.
  • Contributing to manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and developing presentations for scholarly conferences.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Doctoral Degree.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Doctoral-level training to include research design, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience with teaching content areas in the field of specialization.
  • Familiarity with academic and research advising for undergraduate, Masters, PhD and medical students.
  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated effective leadership; set standards of excellence and leadership in professional service; and must have strong interpersonal skills and commitment to graduate education and continued professional development of self and others.
  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems and coordinate multiple systems, projects, and programs at the same time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.
Physical Capabilities
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Compensation
  • The annual salary range for this position is $105,800-$117,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc. This contract is not to exceed one year.
