Educational Technician III - Special Services

Qualifications: Passion for working with students and supporting teachers to achieve individual goals. Must meet Maine Educational Technician III requirements, preferably with coursework in education or related fields.

Reports to: Classroom teachers

Responsibilities:

1. Student-Centered: Understand and/or willingness to learn about students with special needs. Be sensitive to students, parents, and staff needs. Work one-on-one and with small groups to implement curriculum, instruction, and assessments. Assist with supervision during drills, assemblies, play periods, and trips. Support students with lunch, snacks, and cleanup routines. Ensure students’ safety and well-being. Communicate any concerns about individual students to teachers.
2. Leadership: Exhibit strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Maintain calmness, kindness, and a sincere demeanor. Serve as the main resource for substitute teachers. Uphold ethical behavior and confidentiality. Implement behavioral programs in teachers’ absence. Participate in district training, staff meetings, and assist with clerical tasks. Work as part of a team. Support building duties like recess, lunch, and bus duty. Prepare instructional materials and assist with school-wide activities.
3. Core Competencies: Keep students’ needs central to all actions. Advocate against discrimination and harassment. Focus on wellness of staff and students. Be innovative and seek effective solutions. Be persistent and patient in problem-solving. Use resources proactively and network confidently. Ensure reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities as per ADA and law.
4. Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits aligned with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Board policies.
5. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal.
