Job summary

Waterville Public Schools is seeking an Educational Technician III for the 4-Year-Old Program – Educare. You will support preschool students with instructional and functional tasks under teacher supervision, promoting inclusion and safety in the classroom.

The ideal candidate has certification or eligibility, school-based experience, and strong written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a cooperative and patient approach to working with students and staff.

Qualifications

  • Requires MDOE Technician III Certification or eligibility.
  • Experience working with students in a school setting.
  • Strong written, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with instructional and assessment support under supervision.
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment and follow student plans.
  • Document observations and progress using approved methods.
  • Prepare instructional materials and learning aids as directed.
  • Report changes in student behavior to teachers and adjust plans as needed.
  • Direct use of equipment and support learning with technology.
  • Maintain records of student work and progress per routines.

Educational Technician III – 4-Year-Old Program – Educare

Anticipated Start Date: 26/27 School Year

The Waterville Public School System serves over 2,000 students of all ages in and near Waterville, Maine. Recognized as one of the city’s greatest assets, our schools engage every child in challenging, student-centered learning while providing a safe, welcoming environment for them to learn and grow.

We are looking for a caring individual who enjoys working directly with preschool students. This person will assist students with specially designed instruction, daily living skills, academic and functional tasks, as well as promote inclusion in the classroom. This position is part of a dedicated team of professionals committed to supporting students with disabilities in their school community.

The city of Waterville is located on the banks of the Kennebec River and is easily accessible from two exits off I-95 as well as Route 201. Primary Responsibilities
  • Works with individuals or small groups of students to provide instructional and assessment support with direct teacher supervision
  • Ensures a safe environment through consistency and communication with students and staff
  • Follows student plans as defined in written plans or as directed by the teacher applying approved techniques
  • Conducts, records and summarizes student observations as directed
  • Applies classroom rules, expectations, materials and assignments consistently
  • Uses educational technology to document and/ or support student learning
  • Maintains timely and accurate records of student work completion, behavioral progress and other areas following established routines and procedures
  • Prepares calendars, bulletin boards, and instructional support materials as directed
  • Alerts teachers to changes in student behavior or performance and makes minor adjustments to current intervention strategies
  • Directs student use of equipment and materials
  • Performs additional related duties as requested by the Building Administrator or supervising teacher
Qualifications
  • MDOE Technician III Certification (or eligible)
  • Relevant education, credentials, and work experience
  • Experience working with students in a school setting
  • Strong written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong initiative and willingness to work independently and also as part of a team
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with students, and teachers
  • Cooperative, patient, and respectful of the beliefs, opinions, and confidentiality of others
