Job summary

Des Moines Public School District is seeking an Academic and Behavior Technician to support special education practitioners in data collection and documentation for Child Find evaluations.

The role involves interviews with students, educators, and parents, observations of instructional activities, and assisting with assessments while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to FERPA/HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Licensed by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
  • Ability to relate to student population and build cooperative relationships.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Competence with technology for documentation, collaboration, and service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Review student records and summarize important information related to the student's education program.
  • Conducts interviews with students, educators or parents.
  • Conducts observations of students and instructional activities.
  • Assists with assessments of students without interpretation.
  • Assists with preparing materials and scheduling activities.
  • Assist with data collection and documentation as directed.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Responds to changing educational needs and environments.
