Job summary

Alabaster City Schools in Alabama seeks a Psychometrist to administer intellectual and achievement tests and assist with eligibility determinations for special education.

The successful candidate will hold Alabama teaching certification and a School Psychology certificate, with a master’s degree in psychology or testing, and collaborate with Exceptional Education staff to support student evaluations and IEP development.

Qualifications

• Valid Alabama teaching certificate is required.
• State Department of Education certificate in School Psychology (A or AA) is required.
• Master’s degree or higher with academic training in psychological testing.
• Background coursework in tests and measurements, child development, guidance and counseling, and Exceptional Education.
• Alternatives to the listed qualifications may be considered by the Board.
• Preferred certification to conduct Autism Evaluations using ADOS and autism rating scales.

Responsibilities

• Administer assessments including intellectual and achievement tests for eligibility for special education.
• Co-coordinate eligibility and reevaluation processes and assist in placement recommendations.
• Assist in developing procedures for referral, evaluation and placement.
• Review referrals and request additional information as needed.
• Consult with school personnel regarding referrals and related matters.
• Re-evaluate Exceptional Education students per federal and state guidelines.
• Schedule testing with school personnel or parents as appropriate.
• Assist with compliance verification on transfers, reevaluations, and referrals.
• Follow guidelines and timelines for evaluation and eligibility and communicate with attorneys as directed.
• Prepare and present cases to Eligibility Determination Committee and complete written reports on tests.

Education

Valid Alabama teaching certificate

State Department of Education certificate in School Psychology (A or AA)

Master’s degree or higher with training in psychological testing

Background courses: tests and measurements, child development, guidance and counseling, Exceptional Education

Alternatives as the Board may find appropriate

Autism Evaluations using the ADOS and Autism rating scales (preferred)
