Job summary

Mad Science of WI IL & MI is seeking energetic instructors to bring hands-on science and fun to elementary students at schools, camps and community events. No teaching degree required; we train on the job and provide a pre-set curriculum and supplies.

You will travel to different sites, lead inquiry-based activities, build rockets, mix reactions, and guide kids through take-home projects while keeping safety and engagement high. Flexible hours, year-round work, base pay plus bonus.

Qualifications

  • Solid experience working with groups of elementary-age children (5-12).
  • Available at least four days per week and two Saturdays a month; 20-30 hours per week.
  • Must have a reliable car and valid driver's license.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Year-round position; stable and long-term employment.
  • Base pay plus a bonus plan is available.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships with clients and update contact databases as needed.
  • Handle incoming inquiries for programming and assist with equipment preparation.
  • Act as a support person for our teaching team and help create new business opportunities by calling schools and organizations.
  • Assist with client communications such as booking confirmations, invoices, follow-up surveys, and promotional material.

JOB SUMMARY:

At Mad Science we are having a BLAST! We pay you to have fun! Build and fly rockets, mix up chemical reactions, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about. You do NOT need to be a certified teacher, nor do you need to be a science major, we teach elementary kids, we can train you on the science.

As a Mad Science instructor you will lead students through an inquiry-based discovery method involving instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities and amazing take-home projects that will illustrate how science affects the world around us.We provide the pre-set curriculum and supplies.

Each class is a high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on class. Some classes last for one hour, other camps may last an entire day. All of our programs are outreach, you will be traveling to different sites throughout the area conducting programs!

You must enjoy teaching young children and have pride knowing you are making a difference in the communities we serve.

When you aren't teaching, you will work in the office as part of our Operations team.

Your job duties will include:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Solid experience working with groups of elementary age (5-12) children (such as teacher, teachers assistant, instructor or camp counselor).
  • Must be available at least four days during the week and able to work at least two Saturdays a month on few daytime programs. We are flexible with a schedule working 20-30 hours per week.
  • Must have a reliable car and valid driver's license.
  • All employees are required to undergo a criminal background check.
  • Have a fun & outgoing personality
  • You must be reliable and dependable, and able to lift our equipment which can sometimes weigh up to 25 pounds.
