Job summary

Bucks IU Education is offering an Educational Interpreter Intern/Paraeducator position designed to prepare individuals for a career as an Educational Interpreter serving deaf or hard-of-hearing students.

The internship combines on-site instructional support with PaTTAN mentoring and individualized coaching. A minimum EIPA score of 3.5 is targeted, with on-site work and a structured career path within Bucks IU.

Qualifications

• Must have EIPA score 3.5 or higher or awaiting official results.
• Educational Interpreter Preparation Program is preferred.
• Coursework in Educational Interpreting or related fields preferred.
• Experience with children or students with disabilities preferred.
• Meet highly qualified paraeducator criteria via degree/credits/equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Participate fully in PaTTAN Educational Interpreter Mentoring Program.
• Meet regularly with Bucks IU mentor.
• Observe experienced interpreters across settings.
• Participate in guided interpreting practice under supervision.
• Develop ASL skills.
• Develop educational interpreting skills and strategies.
• Learn and apply the Code of Ethics for Educational Interpreters.
• Attend workshops and professional development activities.
• Demonstrate growth through mentor feedback and sessions.
• Assist with data collection of student performance.
• May transport students when qualified.
• Follow individualized supports and IEP/ERs where applicable.
• Assist with preparation of instructional materials.
