Job summary

Union Pines High School is seeking an Educational Interpreter for hearing-impaired students to support classroom communication and school activities in Cameron, North Carolina. The role supports the teacher of the deaf and general education staff through accurate transliteration and interpretation.

The position requires an AA degree in interpreting or a related field, combined with EIPA scores and ongoing professional training.

Qualifications

• AA degree in interpreting or relevant degree.
• Minimum of 3.3 on the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment).
• No prior experience required (Interpreter I).
• For Interpreter II: AA degree, minimum 3.5 on the EIPA, and at least 3 years’ experience in an education setting.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between the student, peers, and adults in the school environment.
• Studies lesson content prior to class to ensure accurate representation.
• Tutors students who are deaf or hard of hearing under teacher direction.
• Provides feedback to teachers on request.
• Serves as liaison to promote positive relationships within the school.
