- Job Title: Educational Assistant/Substitute
- All Educational Assistants must hold a Level 3 K-12 Educational Assistant License issued by the New Mexico Public Education Department. To qualify, applicants must provide transcripts from a credentialing college or university, or pass a paraprofessional exam administered by RRPS.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Level 3 K-12 Educational Assistant License
- Hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Substitute License
Educational Assistant Tiers
- Tier 1: GE and Kindergarten assistants (Library, Ed Tech, Workroom, etc.)
- Tier 2: Assist in Special Education classrooms and support student daily living activities such as feeding, cleaning, diapering, catheter care, toileting, feminine hygiene, clothing changes, wheelchair transport, and other daily living activities.
- Tier 3: Work in social communications classrooms, district‑approved behavioral or cross‑categorial programs, or CBI programs. May be identified by the Executive Director of Special Services and expected to work with students through lunch. Duties similar to Tier 2.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assist teachers, specialists, librarians, school nurse, and other staff across regular and special education classrooms.
- Prepare and deliver instructional materials.
- Support one‑on‑one and small group activities.
- Assist with student transfers.
- Assist with caring for student needs as described above.
- Help implement student goals and objectives.
- Manage or redirect disruptive or combative students.
- Supervise students in playground, cafeteria, restrooms, and hallways.
- Participate in staff meetings and in‑service training.
- Adhere to New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession, RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct, and all relevant regulations.
- Perform clerical duties for teachers.
- Serve as a substitute when assigned.
- Perform additional duties as required by district.
Work Hours
Hours in accordance with district and school schedules as per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
