RRPS Special Services-Social/Emotional Program (Elementary Grades)
190‑day contract.
Job Title: Educational Assistant/Substitute.
Rio Rancho Public Schools (RRPS) requires all Educational Assistants to hold a Level 3 K‑12 Educational Assistant License through the New Mexico Public Education Department. If required, applicants must show transcripts from a credentialing college or university or pass a paraprofessional exam administered by RRPS.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Level 3 K‑12 Educational Assistant License.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a New Mexico Public Education Department Substitute License.
Educational Assistant Tiers
- Tier 1 includes all GE and Kindergarten Educational Assistants (e.g., Library, Ed Tech, Workroom).
- Tier 2 includes those working in a Special Education setting with Special‑Education students and may involve caring for student needs such as feeding, cleaning, diapering, and assisting with daily living activities.
- Tier 3 includes those working in a social communications classroom or district‑approved behavioral, cross‑categorical, or CBI program and may involve caring for student needs such as feeding, cleaning, diapering, and assisting with daily living activities. Tier 3 assistants may be expected to work through lunch periods and are identified by the Executive Director of Special Services.
- Educational Assistants may also be assigned to regular education or special‑education classrooms, assist librarians, the school nurse, other professionals, or monitor the school workroom.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assist teachers and professionals with the preparation and/or delivery of instructional material.
- Participate in one‑on‑one and small group activities.
- Assist in transferring students.
- Assist in caring for student needs such as feeding, cleaning, diapering, catheter equipment handling, toileting, feminine hygiene, clothing changes, transporting, transferring, and other daily living activities.
- Assist teachers and ancillary staff in implementing goals and objectives for each student.
- Assist with management and redirection of students who may be disruptive or combative.
- Supervise students on the playground, cafeteria, restrooms, and hallways.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑service training as per negotiated agreement, and other school activities.
- Comply with state‑approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct.
- Perform clerical duties for teachers.
- Perform substitute duties as assigned.
- May be assigned additional duties based on district needs during the term of employment.
Work Hours
Work hours will be in accordance with hours determined by the school district and the individual schools within the parameters of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
