Job summary

Salem School District is seeking an Educational Assistant to support students in classroom, special education, and inclusionary settings. The role assists teachers, aides, and school staff to implement instructional activities for diverse learners.

The position involves working with students individually or in groups, supporting inclusive practices, and may include personal care tasks. Experience with children is preferred and CPI certification may be pursued where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Work with students individually, in small groups, or in large groups as necessary and as prescribed by the immediate supervisor.
• Classroom and Support Assistants: Usually work with students in the general school population.
• Special Education Assistants: Usually work with students with identified special needs, or who require additional educational assistance as defined in an individual education plan (IEP). Assistants provide support in the appropriate educational setting.
• Demonstrate a continuous sensitivity to the needs of children to whom they are assigned.
• Carry out instructional or developmental activities suggested by the teacher, specialist, or others designated by the building administrator.
• Maintain competency and skills through a variety of available offerings.
• Educational Assistants may be responsible for personal care needs of student(s)
• Educational Assistants may be expected to obtain and maintain CPI (Non Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be established by the school board by August 10th.

2026-2027 HOURLY SALARY

$19.56 plus $1.00 for a certification from the NH Department of Education as a paraeducator II or as a teacher. An Educational Assistant who is certified as a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) will receive a $3.00 per hour differential.

HOURS/DAY: 6.5

SCHOOL YEAR: 183 days/year

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated no less than annually by the building administrator and immediate supervisor(s).
