Job summary

Salem School District Educational Assistant - Kindergarten Assistant is sought to support classroom teachers with instructional activities for kindergarten students. The role includes assisting students individually and in small groups, and may involve personal care tasks as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, experience with children, and physical ability to lift 30 pounds. CPI certification may be required; this is a part-time, on-site role with a 6.5-hour day and a 183-day

Responsibilities

• Work with students individually, in small groups, or in large groups as necessary and as prescribed by the immediate supervisor.
• Classroom and Support Assistants: Usually work with students in the general school population.
• Special Education Assistants: Usually work with students with identified special needs, or who require additional educational assistance as defined in an individual education plan (IEP). Assistants provide support in the appropriate educational setting.
• Demonstrate a continuous sensitivity to the needs of children to whom they are assigned.
• Carry out instructional or developmental activities suggested by the teacher, specialist, or others designated by the building administrator.
• Maintain competency and skills through a variety of available offerings.
• Educational Assistants may be responsible for personal care needs of student(s)
• Educational Assistants may be expected to obtain and maintain CPI (Non Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Terms of Employment

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be established by the school board by August 10th.

2026-2027 HOURLY SALARY

2026-2027 HOURLY SALARY: $19.56 plus $1.00 for a certification from the NH Department of Education as a paraeducator II or as a teacher. An Educational Assistant who is certified as a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) will receive a $3.00 per hour differential.

HOUR/DAY: 6.5

SCHOOL YEAR 183 days/year

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated no less than annually by the building administrator and immediate supervisor(s).
