Job summary

Warren County Board of Education seeks an Educational Assistant/Paraprofessional to support teachers in delivering instruction and managing classroom activities. The individual will work with individual students or small groups, reinforce learning objectives, and help prepare materials while maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Qualifications

  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate’s degree (or higher), or passing the Paraprofessional Assessment with a score of 456 or higher.
  • Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Aid the teacher in preparing the classroom and distributing lesson materials.
  • Instruct students under the teacher’s supervision and assist with small groups.
  • Maintain a neat, organized classroom and bulletin boards.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, drills, and field trips as directed.
  • Assist with student records, attendance, and classroom materials as needed.
  • Support with reading aloud, drills, and other instructional activities as assigned by the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior regarding students and information.

JOB GOALS

To achieve greater efficiency in the educational process by relieving teachers and other certified personnel of the performance of tasks that do not require professional training.

To assist the teachers achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Aid teacher in preparing room for school.
  2. Help prepare and distribute lesson materials.
  3. Instruct student under teacher's supervision.
  4. Keep classroom neat and orderly.
  5. Aid teacher in arranging bulletin boards.
  6. Supervise playground under teacher's supervisor.
  7. Assist with student records when asked.
  8. When necessary, supervise students in cafeteria.
  9. Aid in storing materials and getting classroom ready for closing of school.
  1. Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students
  1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  1. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  1. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  1. Helps students' master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  2. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  1. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  1. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  1. Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date.
  1. Assists with such large groups activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling.
  1. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
  1. Assists students in the library or media center
  1. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher.
  1. Checks and records student attendance.
  2. Collects and records the collection of money.
  3. Helps students with their clothing.
  4. Assists with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
  5. Assists with wash-up and toilet routines.
  1. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  1. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  1. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  1. Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  2. Any such related duties as may be assigned by the building principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 40 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds such as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Other physical demands may be required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
