Job Description

The educational assistant for the visually impaired is responsible for modifying materials to enhance instruction as requested by the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and working directly with students with visual impairments including blindness. Must have a strong interest in learning braille and becoming certified within 3 years of employment.

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Occasional lifting of 40 to 70 pounds
  • Frequent bending, standing, sitting, walking
  • Occasional reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, or standing
  • Ability to run short distances
Responsibilities
  • Help ensure the safety of students with visual impairments.
  • Assist with instruction under the guidance of a certified teacher.
  • Maintain and organize the vision department's library of tactile and large print books.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills.
  • Work effectively with students, teachers, and staff.
  • Prepare adapted materials promptly for students with visual impairments.
  • Document health-related services as required.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Skills

Employment Details
  • Type: Part-time, 37.5 hours/week, FTE 0.94
  • Location: Variable Location
  • Salary Range: $19.84 - $30.55 hourly, with minimum $19.84 and maximum $25.20
