Job summary

Douglas County School District seeks an Educational Assistant (EA IV) to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student at Sedalia Elementary. The role focuses on implementing IEP, BIP, and Health Care Plan, ensuring safety, access to instruction, and active participation throughout the school day in multiple environments.

The ideal candidate will maintain close proximity for safety, assist with personal care as needed, collect progress data daily, and collaborate with the Special Education Teacher

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions for implementing IEPs, health plans, and behavior protocols with high fidelity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and respond to complex and challenging student behaviors.
  • Willingness and ability to assist students with personal care, toileting, and mobility, including lifting and transferring (with appropriate training and assistance).

Responsibilities

  • Collect and accurately record all required data on academic, behavioral, social, and functional goals, reporting progress to the Special Education Teacher daily/weekly.
  • Provide direct 1:1 support to the student in the general education classroom, special education setting, and all non-instructional environments.
  • Execute the student's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and crisis management strategies consistently across all settings, including instruction, transitions, and unstructured time.
  • Facilitate peer interaction and social skills development by modeling appropriate social behaviors and supporting the student's successful participation in group activities.
  • Physically assist the student with transitions between classes, activities, and locations within the school building and community.

Requires a high degree of flexibility, consistency, and professional judgment to ensure the student's safety, access to instruction, and full participation across the school day and various learning environments. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
