Under department supervision, assists in the instructional processby providing professional services for the classroom and DistrictAcademic Support Centers. This position provides an infrastructureand/or tutors for individualized or group related tutoring tostudents who use the academic support services. Work is generallydiversified based on individual needs of the instructor andstudent. Judgment and analysis are required in making decisionswithin established procedures. Daily responsibilities are completedindependently using established policies and general objectiveswith occasional supervisory contact for policy clarification or interpretation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Encourages learning and study skill behaviors that helpstudents to accomplish their academic goals.
  • Diagnoses learning behaviors, develops strategies andanticipates learning outcomes to help students accomplishtheiracademic goals; determines and schedules appropriate support and ortutoring methods for students.
  • Provides tutoring assistance for specific academic skills andsubjects, consistent with classroom instruction and in conjunctionwith faculty instruction if needed.
  • Coordinates and administers makeup test proctoring services forMATC students.
  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of center and otherspaces assigned; establishes and enforces regulations related tocenter and the equipment used; manages inventory of supplies andequipment; creates purchase orders for needed equipment andsupplies.
  • Assists students by providing problem resolution withcomputers; class issues; software applications includingBlackboard, Microsoft Office Suite programs; class schedules;financial aid applications; homework that uses web-based platforms;computer support equipment; and audio/visual systems.
  • Updates inventory and other data; prepares relevant reports,study guides and reference materials.
  • Assists with district-wide recruitment, interviewing,application, hiring, and training of tutors.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining files, databases, andprogress records; prepares reports as required or assigned.
  • Acts as a liaison between students and faculty.
  • Provides general information about MATC including relevant wraparound services and resources; refers students to other departmentsor services to meet their educational needs.
  • Participates in related in-service training, workshops,divisional meetings, and other educational activities asrequired.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficientoperations of the division.
Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditationstandards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies andprocedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Minimum Education : Associate degree or higher in acomparable field preferred.

Required Minimum Experience : At least two (2) years of comparableexperience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Bachelor degree or higher in related field and with at least three(3) or more years of comparable experience.

Supplemental Information
Hours

This position works 19 hours per week, on-site at the Downtown campus This position works 34 weeks per academic yearwhen students are in session.

Work Schedule:
  • Monday - Wednesday 2 - 7 pm
  • Thursday 3 - 7 pm
