Job summary

Messmer High School seeks an Educational Assistant to support academic, social, and emotional development for students in CORE ninth-grade classes. The role involves small-group instruction, differentiation, and ongoing collaboration with teachers and administrators.

You will assist in instruction, monitor classrooms, and help implement behavior strategies while engaging families and participating in professional development opportunities at the school.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-high school education such as an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience in an urban school environment is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small group instruction and targeted supports to address gaps in CORE classes.
  • Assist the teacher with instruction, classroom monitoring, behavior modification, and student nurturing.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development, and conduct parent conferences as applicable.
  • Apply intentional instructional strategies 1-1 or in small groups as scheduled with fidelity.

Messmer High School is a 9 -12 Catholic high school that serves students and families on the north side of Milwaukee. Messmer High School currently enrolls approximately 500 students. 80% of our students attend college. Over 80% of students qualify for free/reduced meals. Regardless of student background and external factors, MHS maintains high expectations for students.POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe Educational Assistant (EA) at Messmer High School will work under the direction Academic Support Lead, Deans of Instruction and Principal and is responsible for the promotion of the academic, social, and emotional development of students. The MHS Educational Assistants will support academic priorities by providing small group instruction, differentiated instructional activities, and/or scaffolding supports to respond to academic gaps within our rigorous ninth-grade CORE classes.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned.Following professional development (initial and ongoing) effectively apply instructional strategies to support identified students in CORE classes.Assist the teacher in the instruction, classroom monitoring, behavior modification, and nurturing of studentsParticipate in faculty meetings and professional development, parent conferences, as applicableAssist children with assignmentsApply intentional instructional strategies 1-1 or small group settings, as scheduled and with fidelityAdhere to the school’s processes and proceduresPerform other duties as assigned by the principal or other administratorsWe strive to attract and retain a highly skilled faculty and staff that can respond to the needs of our students and community.
