Job summary

Santa Fe College seeks a Tutor Training Program educational aide tutor to recruit, train, support, and retain qualified personnel working with faculty and student support staff to foster an engaging academic experience.

The role focuses on active learning promotion, tutoring across disciplines, and guidance in study skills, goal setting, and time management, while adhering to college policies and FERPA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled Santa Fe College student in good academic standing.
  • Taking six (6) or more credit hours.
  • Criminal background check will be conducted.
  • Must receive written approval from a content/instructor OR endorsement of a tutor trainer/supervisor.
  • Must have completed ENC1101 and ENC1102 with a grade of B or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consistent tutoring services in writing-related subjects for students at all levels.
  • Assists students with goal setting, planning, time-management, study skills, and self-directed learning.
  • Creates an atmosphere of collaboration, trust, and respect among students, faculty, and tutors.
  • Educates and refers students to college resources in academic support interactions.
  • Participates in ongoing training and evaluation cycles as assigned.
  • Honors privacy and confidentiality of student records per FERPA and regulations.
  • Provides courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement with students and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to: Coordinator, Blount Center Academic Support.

Job Description Summary

The Tutor Training Program at Santa Fe College aims to recruit, train, support, and retain qualified personnel to work in concert with faculty and student support staff to create a holistic academic experience. The program's ongoing training focuses on creating a culture that encourages continuous improvement for students, tutors, and other staff members. The primary task of the educational aide tutor is to assist and promote active learning for students.

Job Description Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provides consistent and standardized tutoring services for students in multiple disciplines and at all levels in writing-related subjects.
  • Assists students with subject-matter questions, goal setting, planning, time-management, study skills, and to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners.
  • Creates an atmosphere of collaboration, trust, and respect among students, faculty, and tutors.
  • Educates and provides referrals to college resources in academic support interactions.
  • Participates in ongoing training and evaluation cycles as assigned.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student, in good academic standing, taking six (6) or more credit hours.
Additional Requirements

  • Must have completed and passed ENC1101 and ENC1102 with a grade of B or higher.
Preferred
  • Prior tutoring experience.

  • Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.
  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
