Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Assist in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Thirty (30) semester hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas or three creditable years of experience as either an educational aide I or II
- State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Educational Aide III paraprofessional certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to work with at-risk and special needs students
- Ability to work within a specialized behavior management system
- Ability to learn, utilize and control student behavior through verbal de-escalation techniques
- Ability to work well with adults
- Ability to communicate effectively orally as well as written expression
- General knowledge of computer systems and software applications
- Ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate
Experience
- Experience working with students with special needs and students in at-risk situations
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
- Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, and playground.
- Assist students with physical needs and personal care as needed.
- Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraining disruptive or dangerous physical behavior as needed.
- Keep the teacher and administrative staff informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
- Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.
- Treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect.
- Conduct physical student searches
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by campus principal or senior director.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $29,414 to $35,877 Per Year
