Job description

Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience.

Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education's mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe's need for cultural and economic well-being. Refer to BIE Job Category Standards for additional qualification requirements and substitutions for education. Education

• Level 01 - 48 semester hours in addition to High School or GED Diploma; OR met a rigorous standard of quality, demonstrated through a formal State or local academic assessment test, plus 1 year of experience. Assessment test should demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
• Level 02 - Associates of Arts Degree OR 60 semester hours in addition to High School or GED Diploma PLUS one year of experience.
• Experience should be in the same line of work or one which is basically similar.

Substitution of Education:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Education or equivalent degree meets basic requirements for the position.

Physical Requirement

The work is sedentary and involves bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities. Occasional lifting of moderately heavy items such as student desks and audio-visual machinery is also required.

Good distant vision in one eye and ability to printed material the size of typewritten characters without strain is required, glasses permitted.

The ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, is required.

In most instance, an amputation of arm, hand or leg will not disqualify an applicant for appointment, although it may be necessary that this condition be able to be compensated with the use of satisfactory prothesis.
