Job Overview

Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience. Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe’s need for cultural and economic well-being.

Qualifications

• Education Levels: Level 05 – Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and at least two years of related experience.
• Level 06 – Master’s Degree in a related field and at least three years of related experience.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field (or related areas such as those required under P.L. 95‑142) with a minimum of 12 semester hours of coursework in the specific area of specialization.
• One year of successful experience equivalent to the next lower level of difficulty is required for advancement to each higher level above Level 05.
• A Master’s Degree in an appropriate education field (or related areas) plus three years of appropriate experience is required for Level 06.
• All professional educators must meet the certification standards for their position in the state where the position is located; emergency and provisional certificates may be accepted under state authority conditions.
• Qualifying experience includes teaching experience or other professional education experience related to the position.
• Specialists must be current with all pertinent education legal issues relative to their area of specialty.

Physical Requirements

Good distance vision in one eye and the ability to read printed material of standard size without strain, with glasses permitted. Ability to hear conversational voice with or without a hearing aid. An amputation of an arm, hand, leg, or foot does not disqualify an applicant, provided a satisfactory prosthesis is used. Applicants must possess mental and emotional stability. The position requires normal physical activity, field travel, and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the duty station.
