The University of Texas at Austin's Marine Science Institute seeks an Education Specialist to join the Bay Education Center team in Rockport, TX.

  • Oversee Bay Education Center budgets and purchases, provide annual reports and other reporting and presentations.
  • Create new public program content for Science on a Sphere for all learners.
  • Oversee daily supervision and work direction for BEC part time staff and volunteers including performance evaluations and managing schedules and annual leave; support volunteer recruitment.
  • Assist with other UTMSI/Reserve programs and projects as assigned (EDBD, TOTE Workshops, Monarch Madness, etc.).
  • Draft and monitor Rockport Hotel Occupancy Tax quarterly reports and annual renewal request.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Description:

This person will join the Education team of the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.

This position is up to 19 hours a week and is a flexible schedule.

We are looking for a bright, friendly person with education experience to join our team!

Position duties require work in Rockport, TX.

Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to assist or lead education programs, public Science-On-A-Sphere presentations and daily activities at the Bay Education Center in Rockport, Texas.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four-year degree in environmental science, education, or equivalent.
Salary Range:
  • $16.11/ hour up to 19 hours per week
Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. May be requested to work during special program events.

Work Shift:
  • 19-hour work shift spread throughout a Tuesday - Saturday work week from 10am - 4pm. A six-hour work shift is required on Friday and Saturday, with the rest of the 19 hours used during the workweek. Days depend on the person hired.
