Job Summary:

As a College/Education Specialist, you'll be the driving force behind educational planning and post-secondary success for youth in foster care. This position is expected to build strong, supportive relationships with young people, collaborate with case planning teams, and serve as a mentor and guide through the often-complex journey to college and beyond.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for someone who is passionate about education, advocacy, and youth empowerment.

Key Job Duties:

• Support youth in the transition from high school to college or vocational programs
• Help students identify, research, and apply to colleges aligned with their goals and academic performance
• Assist in writing compelling college essays, completing applications, and securing financial aid and scholarships
• Guide youth through annual reapplications for FAFSA, TAP, and scholarship renewals
• Coordinate SAT/Pre-SAT prep, track scores, and explore college options based on results
• Organize college tours for graduating students and facilitate exposure to campus life
• Develop and maintain individual post-secondary education plans
• Collaborate with youth, families, JCCA staff, schools, and DOE partners to ensure smooth educational pathways
• Submit CSE discharge referrals to align school placements upon discharge
• Educate youth on all aspects of the college application and enrollment process
• Attend and actively participate in school meetings, including CSE, suspension, re-entry, and permanency planning
• Liaise with NYC Department of Education and Advocates for Children to remove barriers and promote academic success
• Document all case activity in Connections (CONX) and Evolve in a timely and accurate manner
• Contribute to educational audits and reporting requirements for funders and regulatory bodies

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field
• Minimum 2 years of experience supporting youth in education-focused settings
• Passion for youth advocacy, college access, and educational equity
• Creative, outgoing personality with a flexible schedule (some evenings/weekends required)
• Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with great attention to detail
• Comfortable using technology; proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems
• Experience working with school systems, DOE, or foster care populations is a plus

Salary:

$57K + differential for Spanish language skills
