Job summary

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) seeks a Manager of School and Teacher Programs to lead the Education department’s K-12 initiatives, including MADLab field trips, long-term partnerships, and professional development for teachers. You will supervise a team of part-time educators and collaborate with the Deputy Director of Education to expand program reach.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience developing and managing visual arts programming for school and teachers in a museum or art education setting
• Ideally, a minimum 2 years of direct managerial experience
• Experience creating and teaching object-based lessons and art making programs for school-age audiences (K-12) in a museum or art education setting
• Experience developing and managing project and program budgets
• Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships, and build community
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced, creative, and public-facing environment
• Proactive communicator with excellent written and communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Exceptional time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines across simultaneous projects, work independently, prioritize tasks, and delegate when appropriate
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to receive and implement feedback in program design

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of MAD’s signature K-12 field trip program (MADLab field trips) and school partnership programs serving 4,500 students annually
• Supervise, support, and evaluate a cohort of part-time Artist Educators, including scheduling, leading regular training sessions and peer evaluations, and cultivating community
• Design, plan, and facilitate professional development workshops for NYC teachers (3+ programs annually) and collaborate with the NYC DoE and other school partners on additional contracted workshops
• Coordinate with school administrators and teachers to schedule field trips, ensure program alignment with learning goals and accommodations, and foster relationship-building with schools and teachers
• Oversee long-term school partnership programs
• Serve as a key liaison to the NYC DoE and other school-based organizations
• Thoughtfully and consistently evaluate all school and teacher programs and implement feedback to refine teaching practices and program procedures
• Develop and lead thematic, developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based gallery tours and artmaking lessons for K-12 audiences as needed
• Develop and manage annual budget for school and teacher programs
• Collect and compile program documentation (quantitative and qualitative data, photos, and testimonials) for grant and board reports
• Periodic renewal of city and state level certification and contracts for school and teacher programs
• General day-to day administration (expense reconciliation, supply orders and organization, maintaining order and cleanliness of public-facing classroom space)
