County of San Mateo seeks an Education & Informatics Manager within San Mateo County Health's Health IT Division to lead training, education, and informatics efforts, ensuring successful adoption and ongoing use of systems, workflows, and technologies across County Health.
The Manager oversees Training and Informatics teams, sets strategy and priorities, and ensures coordination of day-to-day education, rounding, workflow support, and informatics activities for both clinical and non-clinical
San Mateo County Health's Health IT Division is currently seeking a highly motivated, results-driven Education & Informatics Manager to lead the Health IT education, training, and informatics functions and ensure successful adoption, optimization, and ongoing use of systems, workflows, and technologies across County Health.
The Manager will provide direct leadership, operational management, and hands‑on support for two distinct teams: the Training Team and the Informatics Team. The Manager is accountable not only for establishing strategy and priorities, but also for ensuring that day‑to‑day training, education, rounding, workflow support, and informatics activities are effectively coordinated and completed. This Manager will have oversight and responsibility for a current team of seven (7) staff members, including Nursing Informaticists and EHR Analysts.
For the Training Team, this position is accountable for setting the training strategy; establishing priorities, schedules, and deliverables; managing the development, maintenance, and completion of training materials; and ensuring effective delivery of training to County Health and Health IT staff. The Manager will actively coordinate training activities, monitor training completion and readiness, facilitate or deliver training when needed, support trainers in day‑to‑day execution, and ensure adequate training coverage for implementations, onboarding, upgrades, optimization efforts, and ongoing education. The Manager is also responsible for measuring whether training efforts achieve intended learning, readiness, adoption, and operational outcomes.
For the Informatics Team, this position is accountable for leading and actively coordinating clinical and operational informatics activities that connect frontline workflows with Health IT systems and solutions. This includes coordinating regular frontline rounding and engagement; participating in workflow analysis and optimization; supporting system design, validation, and testing; identifying and following through on opportunities for process and technology improvement; facilitating communication between operational and technical teams; and ensuring that technology solutions are aligned with clinical and operational needs. The Manager will ensure that findings, requests, and issues identified through rounding and operational engagement are documented, assigned, tracked, and followed through to resolution.
This position will lead the development, execution, and day‑to‑day management of education and informatics programs across San Mateo County Health (SMCH), with a focus on supporting organizational goals, operational excellence, system adoption, and digital transformation. The Manager will provide direct supervision and hands‑on operational support to both the Nurse Informaticists and the Training Team, including setting priorities, assigning and monitoring work, coordinating schedules and activities, removing barriers, and ensuring commitments and deliverables are completed. This position requires the work to be performed in the state of California.
The Nurse Informaticists play a critical role in bridging the gap between clinical workflows and IT systems. They contribute to all phases of Epic EHR implementation and optimization, including frontline rounding and workflow observation, workflow analysis, build validation, testing, go‑live support, adoption support, and ongoing system refinement. This team serves as clinical subject matter experts, partnering closely with the Training Team and operational departments to identify workflow and education needs, support frontline staff, and promote successful adoption of new digital tools and workflows.
The Manager will directly manage the Training Team and is responsible for ensuring the successful coordination, scheduling, delivery, and continuous improvement of training programs for clinical and non‑clinical stakeholders. This includes managing Epic certification and credentialing processes; coordinating training schedules, registration, classrooms, instructors, training environments, and other logistics; monitoring attendance, completion, and learner readiness; maintaining training materials; and leveraging adult learning principles to deliver effective education. The Manager will partner directly with operational leaders, departmental experts, and frontline staff to identify training and adoption needs and develop tailored solutions, including a robust SuperUser Program supported collaboratively by the Nurse Informaticists and Trainers.
In addition to ensuring success during go‑live, the Manager will help establish a scalable, long‑term learning infrastructure that supports onboarding, optimization, refresher training, and future upgrades. This role champions collaboration, promotes consistency in educational practices, and drives a culture of continuous learning and system‑wide readiness. By uniting informatics and training under one strategic vision, the Manager ensures that staff across SMCH are empowered with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
