Job description

We are seeking a collaborative, organized, and relationship-driven Education Director to support the daily life of our school community. This role combines educational leadership, staff support, operational coordination, and family engagement in a warm, child-centered environment.

The Education Director serves as a visible and supportive presence throughout the school, helping teachers thrive, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, and cultivating a thoughtful, emergent curriculum rooted in inquiry and collaboration.

The Education Director reports to the Program Director and supports general school operations as needed or required.

Requirements
  • NY State Certified in Early Childhood Education
  • Schedule M-F 7:30am-4:00pm
  • Available year-round (two weeks vacation in early August plus one week between June 15-July 31)
  • Certified or willing to obtain FDNY Certificates of Fitness: S-95 (supervision of fire alarm and other related systems) and F-07 (fire and emergency drill conductor)
  • Certified or willing to obtain Food Handling Certificate
  • Certified or willing to obtain Medication Administration Training

  • August 17, 2026 OR January 4, 2027
Educational Leadership & Staff Support
  • Support the hiring process by interviewing potential candidates, and onboarding new teachers, providing integral training on our approach, curriculum, and operations.
  • Support teachers across both locations in developing curriculum through provocations, small-group investigations, and social-constructivist emergent curriculum.
  • Meet bi-weekly with teaching teams across both locations to discuss curriculum development, classroom dynamics, and collaborative teaching practices.
  • Observe and support classrooms throughout the week, offering guidance, coaching, and practical support.
  • Plan and facilitate staff meetings and other professional development opportunities.
  • Support teachers in discussing classroom challenges and brainstorming thoughtful approaches and solutions.
  • Meet individually with teachers as needed to support documentation, classroom practice, and professional growth.
  • Support ongoing classroom and school documentation, including reviewing all classroom documentation, portfolios, yearbooks and personal narratives.
  • Substitute in classrooms when needed to support continuity of care and learning.
School Operations & Administration
  • Serve as a full-time site director at one campus, and the contact person for building maintenance.
  • Coordinate daily staff coverage, personal days, scheduling, lunch coverage, specialists, and outdoor schedules for both locations.
  • Maintain familiarity with Article 47 regulations and help ensure ongoing school compliance, including classroom safety, organization, and supervision procedures.
  • Coordinate DOH and FDNY inspections and maintain all records and logs for the site.
  • Coordinate materials and supplies for classrooms, atelier, after-school classes, and staff needs.
  • Coordinate lunch delivery and distribution of lunches.
  • Coordinate break camp and summer camp set up.
  • Contact families if children are ill or need to be picked up.
  • Review incident reports and call families as necessary.
  • Coordinate with field advisors, arrange classroom assignments, student teacher schedules, and intern orientation.
  • Keep track of and organize attendance sheets
Family & Community Engagement
  • Welcome and greet families and children at arrival each day.
  • Attend parent workshops and school community events.
  • Lead the school’s annual Service Learning project and Winter Fair.
  • Coordinate teacher responsibilities and materials for the school-wide Welcome Picnic and End of Year Picnic
  • Help coordinate parent-teacher conferences to ensure timely communication and smooth scheduling.
  • Support admissions and family engagement efforts through participation in introductory presentations and new parent events.
  • Attend School Fairs for admissions/hiring (evenings, weekends)
  • Organize and host visiting educators and school groups as requested.
  • Support parent volunteer efforts as needed.
General Administration
  • Welcome and greet families during arrival and dismissal.
  • Respond promptly to urgent school communications, including late pickups, drop-off changes, requests for schedule changes, and authorized pickup updates.
  • Source and share articles, videos, and professional resources for staff learning.
  • Help connect teachers with external workshops and school visits.
  • Review and support all documentation for classroom exhibitions.
  • Along with the Program Director, plan the Teacher Orientation weeks at the start of the year that include professional development workshops and staff training.
Hiring & Admissions Support
  • Support hiring processes by participating in interviews and classroom observations.
  • Onboard new staff members that join mid-year (review all orientation materials, set up regular meetings and observations)
  • Participate in family interviews and prospective parent engagement as needed.
  • Attend outside workshops and share learning with the school community.
  • Present at conferences, workshops, or educational events when appropriate.
