Job summary

Beacon Health System Education Coord reports to the Director. This role coordinates orientation, continuing education and in-service programs for the Transport staff, ensuring competency based training and regulatory compliance. It supports the Transport Leadership team with day-to-day operations and policy development.

The ideal candidate designs curricula, delivers group and individual instruction, tracks progress, and mentors staff while coordinating in-house and community training activities.

Qualifications

• Accredited Paramedic program completion is required.
• Indiana and Michigan paramedic licenses; National Registry required to apply.
• Current driver’s license with clean driving record.
• BLS-HCP, ACLS, PALS, NRP and PHTLS certifications required at hire.
• AHA and NAEMT instructor credentials must be obtained within one year of hire.
• Supervisory experience in medical transport preferred.
• Specialty Transport Certification (Flight Paramedic, etc.) or RN with Indiana licensure to practice as an RN; MSN/NP preferred.
• Two years of nursing experience required; CPR instructor certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Assess training needs and develop competency-based programs for Transport staff.
• Design, update and evaluate lesson plans, lectures, tests and training materials.
• Teach staff via group and individual instruction; provide coaching as needed.
• Prepare schedules, attendance rosters and evaluations; produce training summaries.
• Monitor orientation progress and advise Director/Manager on outcomes and competencies.
• Coordinate in-house and community training activities; lead quarterly AHA/PHTLS/AMLS sessions.
• Participate in policy development and organizational education initiatives.
• Educate patients where appropriate and contribute to department’s education goals.

Job description

Education Coord Reports to the Director. Is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating and evaluating orientation, continuing education and in-service programs for the Beacon Health System Transport staff which are competency based. As a vital member of the Transport Leadership team, this role extends to operational tasks assigned by the Director to assist in the department's day-to-day operations.

Provides Staff Education By

• Facilitating needs analysis for staff to ensure that educational needs are identified and are the focal point for program development and enhancements; also ensuring that desired outcomes are met.
• Designing, preparing, evaluating and updating lesson plans, lectures, tests, materials, programs and courses to meet regulatory agency requirements and changing needs.
• Teaching staff members by conducting training and providing group and individual instruction.
• Preparing necessary administrative/support materials (such as program schedules, attendance rosters, evaluations and summaries, etc.).
• Monitoring the orientee's progress/performance and providing instruction and counseling as necessary; also making appropriate recommendations to the department Manager/Director.
• Participating in community activities as requested.
• Providing education for patients as appropriate.
• Assisting in the development of policies and procedures.
• Will conduct AHA classes once per quarter, either as lead instructor or coordinating with other in-house instructors.
• Will conduct PHTLS and AMLS twice per year, either as lead instructor or coordinating with other in-house instructors.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute the overall effectiveness of the department by

• Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
• Tracks and reports all required and preferred credentials 30-days prior expiration.

Organizational Responsibilities

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements

• Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
• Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
• Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
• Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
• Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
• Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
• Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
• Complies with established organization and department policies.
• Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

• The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of either an accredited Paramedic program. Unrestricted Indiana and Michigan Paramedic license as well as National Registry required to apply. Current driver's license with clean record required. BLS-HCP, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and PHTLS required upon hire. AHA and NAEMT instructor credentials required within one year of hire. Supervisory experience in medical transport preferred. Specialty Transport Certification (i.e. Flight Paramedic Certification) required, OR a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana. A Master's degree in Nursing or Advanced Practice Nursing degree preferred. Two years of previous nursing experience is required. Must also be CPR certified as an instructor.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands

• Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs, lift at least 50 pounds, to position/lift patients of various sizes and weights, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
