Job summary

The Troy University College of Education and Behavioral Sciences seeks a Communications Coordinator to support the dean and faculty by developing and distributing strategic communications to raise awareness of the college’s mission, programs and impact.

This role also assists with media inquiries, pitches faculty expertise, coordinates with University Relations, and maintains content for the College website and social channels while ensuring brand compliance across university communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or a closely related field
• Strong writing and editing skills for print, web, and social media with AP style knowledge
• Experience in news/public relations/media relations or marketing role
• Experience creating and managing social media content in professional/academic setting
• Photography skills suitable for basic news gathering and event coverage
• Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Write news releases, feature stories, web content, and other materials highlighting faculty, students, programs, and initiatives
• Edit content for clarity, accuracy, tone, and AP style
• Assist with internal and external communications as needed
• Develop and manage content for the College’s social media aligned with University strategy
• Create engaging digital content to support recruitment, outreach, and reputation-building
• Update and maintain College web pages using the University CMS
• Coordinate with Marketing and Communications on campaigns, requests, and brand compliance
• Assist with media relations, including responding to inquiries and coordinating interviews
• Pitch faculty experts, research, and College initiatives to local, regional, and national media
• Assist with media monitoring and reporting
• Provide basic event coverage, photography and limited video support as needed
