Job summary

Carney, Sandoe & Associates is seeking a Chief Financial Officer for an independent Jewish school in Houston, TX. The CFO will serve as the strategic financial advisor to the Head of School, Board, and senior leadership, guiding long-term financial strength and operational effectiveness.

The role oversees budgeting, forecasting, audits, regulatory compliance, and external partnerships, ensuring prudent stewardship of resources in support of the school's mission and priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field; MBA/CPA strongly preferred.
• Significant progressive leadership experience at an executive level in finance or operations.
• Experience in independent schools or nonprofit organizations is preferred.
• Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls.
• Proven ability to work with a Board and senior leadership.
• Experience negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal financial strategist to Head of School and Board.
• Develop and execute a financial strategy aligned with mission and plan.
• Lead annual budget process and multi-year forecasts.
• Monitor financial performance indicators and provide regular analyses.
• Oversee audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and other partners.
• Evaluate contracts and capital expenditures with leadership.
